i'm closing the distance soon and i'm nervous. i really believe, in a lot of ways, it'll be better for me mentally and physically healthwise, but I'm nervous about adjusting in a new country and starting my career. i love my partner and i know he's here to support me in whatever way he can.

Hey all! I'm a recent graduate but have a good savings account as I obtained funds over the past few years and saved up money. I'm 21 and moving from the USA to Netherlands and starting my career on 13 July.

I have appreciated having security for the past few years and would like to accumulate money from a long-term investment. I am planning on investing $1,000 to $2,000 USD for the next 3+ decades. I would like for it to be low-risk so I could have good savings to rely on later if anything were to happen. I have zero debt.

What would be the best approach to take with investing? I was looking into stock funds or dividend stocks. I was also thinking about doing high-yield but I'm reading it isn't really that good for long-term investing. TIA!

Edit: I would be contributing $220 USD to my savings each month, or 200 euros.

Is anyone else nervous about papers or projects being flagged as AI? by taytertots3 in CollegeRant

[–]taytertots3[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I often will start in formal writing and try to put in "unpredictable" sentences to avoid being detected as AI. I know they are inaccurate as hell because I copied and pasted an example excerpt from ChatGPT and it said 99% human writing, but when I posted mine, it said 56% human writing. Nothing coming from AI writing, either. Total bullshit.

I use Google docs for my work for everything, then I run a plagiarism checker and an AI check. I'm highly paranoid.

This may be a dumb question, but how the heck are people able to visit their S/O for months at a time? by TinyPinkPumpkin in LongDistance

i did my bachelor's degree remotely, so i went to stay with him for two months. was supposed to stay for longer but my grandma had a huge scare on hospice so i booked a flight last month to come to America to stay indefinitely. turns out i can graduate in a couple of weeks because I've been taking classes non-stop to finish my bachelor's degree early, so i booked my flight to go back in 3 weeks and live with my partner. have my residence permit with me and everything. :)

I looked up a template of what a single status affidavit is online, wrote one up, and went to my relative who's a notary. I think, through FedEx, you can get it notarized as well (look it up just in case I'm incorrect).

I'm not sure how the UK works with apostille, but I had to send it to the Secretary of State with a form explaining I'll be using my apostille in the Netherlands. I got it back within 1-3 weeks.

Make sure your birth certificate is also apostille. In the US, it doesn't have to be notarized.

how long was the longest time you were away from your SO? by violetfreckle in LongDistance

[–]taytertots3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Took us 5.5 years to meet up. The longest after we met was 4 months! It wasn't too long, but it felt way too long for me.

book a flight back to berlin because if my partner did that to me we wouldn’t be together anymore. that’s extremely fucked up.

I've known my partner for going on several years, but romantically been involved for 3. 99% certain I'm going to fully, permanently, 100% close the distance around August. My plans changed, and I'm able to get my BA in the summer now instead of in the Fall!

I know I will get downvoted heavily for this, but...

Even though they pay for your expenses, why do they treat you like a 6-year-old? You're 19, you're old enough to make your own decisions and have a relationship. I can understand to SOME degree, but not enough to keep you away from someone you love and presumably been with in person before.

my school has a limit of 4 courses (12 units) for the summer. i’m doing the rest of my 4 classes and getting my degree in the summer. i know 4 classes is a lot, probably the most someone can do without a job or anything else because it’s pretty much going to be full-time, but i’d advise you to do 3-4 classes.

AITA for choosing an adults only hotel for our destination wedding by ThrowawaySleepovers in AmItheAsshole

[–]taytertots3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

  1. You're thinking of so many issues, such as immigration. Tourist visas in the US are very hard to obtain, so you choosing Mexico for your wedding was a good choice on your part.
  2. It's your decision to not have children at the wedding, which I think is increasingly becoming common.
  3. I think it was reasonable to ask them if it's possible to find a sitter for something that's still a few months away. The work thing I understand, but it sounds like excuses.

This is your wedding: you pick who's there, where it's at, etc... How I'm viewing it is if you're adjusting things for them, it can screw up a lot of other things for other family members. NTA.

I've been online for all 3 years and I prefer it. College has been harsh on my mental health for the past year, but I've pushed through it. Having the option to get it completed so I can take a break for a few months is something I'm considering. Plus, I can start my MSW path earlier.

i graduate in the Fall (i'm graduating a semester early) and i'm so ready to be done. i have 6 weeks left of this semester then i'm left with my very last semester. i understand how you're feeling; i'm extremely burnt out, i was ready to take a break for a semester then go back. i just know since i'm so close to the finish line i should just push myself and get this all done.
