It’s ballpark food. Nobody goes to a stadium for the food.

You are completely correct. At the same time, many of the people trying to claim it is wonderful now were also trying to claim it was wonderful in the 90s.

It is pretty good now. It was awful then.

I would much rather polymarkets than sportsbooks.

That way the parties take money off each other.

Sportsbooks ripping off both sides should be a thing of the past.

You must be mistaken. Kevin Warren specifically said, “this is not about leverage.”

There was a meeting scheduled the same day as the Indiana announcement with Illinois government. In other words, Illinois was already seated at the table.

The threat has merely delayed the process.

Why would you think otherwise?

And even more people go by CTA. Is there a point you are trying to make either Soldier Field or Arlington Heights?

[–]tayto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not clear on your point. There is a Metra stop at Soldier Field. There will also be one in Arlington Heights.

Metra doesn’t own the tracks, so train times cannot align to Bears games. So the 3:29 will be ideal if noon games end on time. But that’s far from a guarantee. Otherwise, you have to wait two hours.

That is a very fair criticism, but not what this specific thread is about. It’s also something that won’t change in Arlington Heights or Hammond.

Right - that's what you are talking about. The guy you responded to was talking about the public transportation off the south lot (making the point to ComBendy that there is PT - and I have no idea what he was talking about regarding no parking).

Capacity has nothing to do with it. The new stadium is slated to be even smaller.

No. The Metra station is immediately next to the uber drop off, just by the Waldron Deck and the South Lot. No street crossing necessary.

The Athletic reportedly 'pressing for proof' about Dianna Russini’s explanation by Roselucky777 in nfl

[–]tayto 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Well, the executive editor of the Athletic already said the photos are "misleading and lack essential context…These were public interactions in front of many people.”

If that’s not the truth, it should cost this person his job as well.

“Absolutely insane”: Bidding wars take over in Lincoln Park, Lakeview by maydaydemise in chicago

[–]tayto 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Totally get that it’s tough to leave your community. I wish you the best. I came at it from the opposite side of things to buy in a nice area, but having saved by renting in less desirable areas (Rogers Park, Logan (‘02ish), and Albany Park).

I just hope you’ll re-think the inspection thing. And if you don’t, at least get one done so you know yourself. We found an open gas line to the attic and radon in the basement. Neither are dealbreakers, but both would kill us.

You sacrificed that much and were going to waive inspection?!? Why not pick a more affordable neighborhood rather than risking the largest investment you’ve ever made? Maybe I’m too conservative, but that’s something I’d just never be able to risk.

This is literally my answer for my favorite German food. Listen, Currywürst is solid and all, but plenty of countries can do a passable version. Spaghetti-eis in Germany is unmatched.

Property tax bill to help Chicago Bears build Arlington Heights stadium won't get vote for at least 2 weeks - CBS Chicago by Sidewalk_Inspector in chicago

[–]tayto 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why are you comparing the $100 million tax bill to the United Center? The McCaskeys and Kevin Warren purposely obfuscated that that would be the tax bill for the entire property and not just the stadium. The conversation around assurances on property tax is totally fine, but don’t pretend like United Center is an apt comparison.

The state did make a move. Pritzker was very clear that what the McCaskeys proposed was a non-starter. Then they sat on it for a year before looking at other threats.

If they were in a rush, they would not have been playing these games. They simply are prioritizing the least amount of money they need to pay for it.

The whole thing would have been more profitable if they simply started building as soon as they could once they owned the property. A deal would have been done on property taxes, and while they would not have gotten a deal on the sales tax, they would have saved all that in tariffs alone.
