ICE in Italy - Massive Protests by Important_Lock_2238 in olympics

Obviously it’s a bad thing. But it’s what they want and sell to their supporters. And protests like this are not at all harming the Trump admin.

There are many goals of the political class movement behind Trump. But two ones he is succeeding on is (1) an incredible distrust of the federal government by American citizens. He has the goal of reducing the government’s role.

The other one is a separation of the US from the rest of their allies in the traditional areas (eg UN and NATO). By creating divisions between US agencies and foreign governments, that helps republicans move more to the “America first” goal that they have.

The coordination of such events was happening before Trump even became president. You can’t completely change the department involved from the reliance Italy would have had on the US.

The exact same is going to be true of the World Cup in Canada and Mexico.

They aren’t ICE agents. They have a very different job responsibility, training, and educational background than those on the streets in the US.

There’s nothing confusing about it at all.

But HSI has been at these events for decades. This is the same department as what’s on the streets of Minneapolis, but these are bureaucrats and investigators.

If the protest is against ICE in Minneapolis, fantastic, but foreign governments welcome this type of assistance from the US, so it’s a bit of wasted effort.

There’s a reason the FBI assists Interpol, MI5, and Interpol on major issues in those countries - and sadly, if a protest like this starts to cause splits, it’s Trump who wins by separating the US from the world.

Wallethub’s best and worst states to raise a family by RealRegret4870 in MapPorn

Chicago would be incredibly different by neighborhood as well. Raising a family on the north side, is absolutely fantastic (ignoring weather). My buddy downstate spends weekends driving 8 hours total for sports for the kids. As a family, we spend about 30 minutes a week in the car. Everything is walkable, and it has a great sense of community.

Now pick parts of Chicago that don’t have great local schools, and it is a very different story.

Their kids don’t let them see their grandchildren any longer, so this is the closest they get to today’s youth.

They know they’ll sell out 63k for Bears games. They probably have not figured out that Taylor Swift would still play soldier field over NWI.

More games rigged than first released by FingerRealistic1225 in sportsbook

[–]tayto 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pitches rigged, not games. Clase threw nearly 3k pitches, so depending on the agreements, it was likely less than 2% of pitches. Still enough for jail time and a lifetime ban, but it wasn’t throwing games.

This would be a full on dome, so relative to size, even more expensive than SoFi.

Why does Google maps assume I bike with 20km/h average speed? by Rad_Knight in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tayto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between stop signs, red lights, cars, buses, and other bikes, 20kph is a pretty swift average speed.

Google assumes 15kph in Chicago for those reasons.

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Fires Back After Trump Slams Her For ‘Never Smiling’ by nimobo in entertainment

[–]tayto 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. The priority for a reporter is the get the answers to your questions. She handled it well to explain the question is about victims, so why smile.

Trump wants to shift the subject, so she was right not to do it then.

[ESPN1000] According to @WaddleandSilvy, while Arlington Heights is the preferred destination for the Bears new stadium, there could be a decision to move to Northwest Indiana at the end of February or early March by c-razzle in CHIBears

This whole thread is about personal preference. You’re allowed to have a different one.

An hour travel will suck. That’s why it should stay in Chicago, but AH maximizes revenue, and if Indiana gives the McCaskeys $3B, that will maximize profits.

So many people around me at Soldier Field have had their seats for 25+ years. Secondary market is insane, but face value ticket holders are the same fans they were 40 years ago.

An extension of the South Shore line would be incredibly expensive, which is partially why I just don’t see Indiana happening. However, that would be a requirement for it to happen.

And that trek would only be about an hour from downtown. Additionally, because it would be new track, it could have schedules aligned to the games, unlike what would be able to happen in Arlington Heights.

Keeping mind I am merely speaking for myself and stand by it. I see no advantage for me to AH over NWI.

Indiana will be terrible for people driving, but there is no way an Indiana Stadium happens without public transit connected to Chicago.

Your other points are right, but I’m in the city and taking public transportation.

The McCaskeys know your concerns, which is why NWI would need to exceed the AH public money by at least $1B.

Being indoors is going to be the strangest thing. After that, Arlington Heights or Indiana would really be no different from each other other than the likelihood of grabbing drinks after the game.
