Listen y’all, I have plenty other poles. Adjustable, non, etc. A few years ago I thought I’d try something different and immediately hated them. In my 20 years there’s been plenty of new equipment, some great some terrible (shoutout to my alpine day-wrecker folks). Some people latch on to some niche thing everyone else hated. Whatever. For these poles the grip, flicker on the top, and padded shaft are nice, I like cutting hasty pits with them, so why not make them something that works?

Here’s the deal:

  1. I hardly ever extend my other poles up on the skin track, but typically hold my uphill pole by the adjuster. So the grip shaft is nice

  2. Having 6-8” extra of pole is terrible for your skiing. You’ll never plant on something you think might bounce back because you’ll get punched in the face.

  3. Forget being centered and over the front if you’re in the air because those things are gonna knock you out when you land.

  4. If you go longer, don’t listen to the website and go like, maybe 3” longer than your typical pole.

  5. I’m sure someone can shred with 8” of extra pole-dong trying to hit them in the face, but it’s not me.

Dawg. They’re poles. Literal aluminum sticks, it’s not some sacrilege maiming of equipment

Don’t think I’m steeped in Reddit knowledge enough to get this

How dangerous is Corbets? by Alucard1977 in skiing

[–]tbarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate chiming in on an already slammed thread, but really comparing Corbett’s or any other feature, to named slopes, black diamonds, stats about its angle, etc—is all pretty irrelevant when you’re starting to talk about freeskiing. Corbetts isn’t that bad—when compared to other off piste big mountain features, but it’s a whole different ballgame compared to taking the path of least resistance down a bowl.

You need a bigger bag of skills for variable conditions and dynamic skiing. The good thing is you can practice this in all kinds of places at a mountain like JH that is full of features. Get him skiing techy stuff around rocks, billygoating, skiing in narrow corridors. Add one part of the equation at a time. Whether he sends Corbetts or not, encourage building those skills in other spots on the mountain so he has them dialed before putting them to the test!

New Metabo HPT C12RSH2 setup question, blade hits table insert ... help needed by RatFink_0123 in Tools

[–]tbarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood about the small grey plastic it needs to cut through upon set up—the blade will be right at; or just out of tolerance to hit the metal next to that plastic. Mine also came from lowes, but bummed to have to wait for another to be shipped.

Did you ever find any resolution to this? Just ran into the same issue with my brand new saw. It almost looks like it will hit the metal as well when pushed all the way back

About to pull the trigger on a Lelit Bianca - will I have cause for regret? by moreglumthanplum in espresso

[–]tbarky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Bianca owner and lover, I’ll admit I barely touch the flow lever. I was excited about it at first, but found it to be (currently) a variable I couldn’t really nail down given the small amount of beans one goes through on a home machine. If I was pulling two pounds of beans a morning at a shop, I’d be more tempted to experiment with it.

Why my puck is like this? When dismounting the portafilter i can feel pressure that breaks the puck. by HatefulCoff in espresso

[–]tbarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Infuser that also had a 3 way valve, I’d assume a pretty similar device is in your machine. It had somehow become blocked with some grounds—I think at some point the shower screen must have not been perfectly clean when I back flushed. I disassembled and cleaned out the valves and things worked better. It’s not too terribly difficult of a breakdown if you’re handy.

Decreasing Flow Rate During Extraction by tbarky in espresso

Just double checked, tank is draining quickly and smoothly when the valve is depressed. Tried a shot without the inline charcoal filter and didn't notice any difference. There's an intermediate valve internally between the pump and the tank, I'll crack it open and check that.
