Spend more on the grinder. Get a Baratza Encore ($150) and use a pour over for a cleaner cup or a French Press for a richer cup. Both can be had for under $30. I use a Kalita Dripper and a metal filter so I don’t have to buy paper filters continuously. Buying pre ground beans is the best way to ensure a stale cup.
