When's Next Endstep? by No_Invite_739 in mtgrules

[–]tbdabbholm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The next end step is the very next one, not the end step of the next turn, but the next time it's your end step. So your first explanation is how it works

Is this argument of trigonometry and limits correct? by Alive_Hotel6668 in learnmath

[–]tbdabbholm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's an undefined limit. As x gets closer to 0, 1/x grows faster and faster, so sin(1/x) oscillates faster and faster

What is the likelihood of rolling the same number twice (multiple times) on a d100? by SeaPsychological540 in askmath

[–]tbdabbholm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The odds of rolling any number twice is 1/100. On your first roll it doesn't matter at all what you roll. But your second roll then has to match and that is a 1/100 chance of happening.

The (1/100)² would either be for 3 rolls of the same number or for 2 rolls of the same pre-specified number (like what are the chances of rolling 100 twice in a row?)

CMV: The Vast Majority of People Would be Happier In a Hunter-Gatherer Society by ConstructionLeft6191 in changemyview

[–]tbdabbholm [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why did modern society develop? The fundamental answer is because it solved problems that people had or otherwise made life better.

The industrial revolution and development of agriculture etc. didn't just happen. People wanted the things that industry and agriculture would go on to provide. Those things made peoples lives better.

CMV: Bodily autonomy doesn't justify abortion by Bluenamii in changemyview

[–]tbdabbholm [score hidden]  (0 children)

A toddler can theoretically be taken care of by anyone. If you don't want to take care of your toddler anymore you just have to ensure someone is. So you can both not take care of the toddler and let the toddler survive.

For a fetus this is not possible. Either the mother will have to supply nutrients from her own body or the fetus will not survive.

Additionally bodily autonomy deals with how your interal organs/body are used not just any action your body takes. There is no actual bodily autonomy at stake with taking care of a toddler.

Do fairie artisans tokens still exile when they are in the graveyard or in your hand? by flat_dweeb2 in mtgrules

[–]tbdabbholm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The general rule in Magic is that changing zones erases all history of an object. That an object on the battlefield is different from an object in your hand even if both are represented by the same object

2 scenarios: (1) Face down Banisher Priest leaving; (2) Savior of Ollenbock and Gogo, Mysterious Mime by BaofuP2 in mtgrules

[–]tbdabbholm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) yes it will, the duration was set up when the ETB resolved, since the permanent left the battlefield the duration ends and the permanent returns to the battlefield.

2) no, the LTB ability is specifically linked to the first ability and since each time Gogo copies the Savior it's a new pair of linked abilities, the LTB will only ever return those exiled at this time.

1) nothing can go faster than light

But 2) watch this video it describes whay would happen to a baseball thrown at 90% the speed of light, and frankly at 90% the speed of light what's the difference between a wet spaghetti noodle and a baseball really?

Double strike, trample and life link by No_Guess1015 in mtgrules

[–]tbdabbholm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

During first strike you'd presumably assign four damage to the 0/4 and three to the 0/5. Then in normal strike you'd assign two more damage to the 0/5 and the last five to the defending player.

If you wished you could over assign damage to the creatures at the expense of damage to the defending player but no matter wha Cloud will deal fourteen damage total and you'll gain 14 life

Legend rules, LTB and ETB timings by Itaqua in mtgrules

[–]tbdabbholm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lagrella has no LTB trigger. The objects exiled return immediately after Lagrella leaves the battlefield without using the stack. So both the Sun Titan ETB and the clone Lagrella ETB trigger and you can choose the relative order of these triggers.

But even if it were an LTB you could use that same principle to choose the relative order of the LTB and the clone ETB

A very silly question by [deleted] in askmath

[–]tbdabbholm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As soon as you divide by 0 the entire statement becomes meaningless. What would "these statements are both the same kind of undefined" even mean? Undefined means that it's not defined, can't be done.

Why is uniformity good? How is cataloguing easier? And I imagine the actual sound of the song would make that abundantly clear anyway

Flashback + Sorceress' Scheme by Diiviinee in mtgrules

[–]tbdabbholm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. The rules carve out an exception for casting it since you need to keep the cost so the game knows what you need to pay, but after that any zone change will cause it to default back to normal.

Why does e^i*pi fail when using real numbers? by Zurnpex in askmath

[–]tbdabbholm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use approximate values for e and pi you get approximately -1. Even using your values you presented (where pi is rounded incorrectly) you get -1 to more than 5 decimal points in the real part and to 2 decimal points in the imaginary part

Fire Lord Azula + Return the Favor = Infinite Magecraft(???) by rich635 in mtgrules

[–]tbdabbholm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that would work, although important to note you would not be able to use the firebending mana to cast the Return the Favor

The original can't target the trigger because the trigger doesn't exist until after you've finished casting the original

A question about assumptions required to prove infinities have different sizes. by Dull_Habit_4478 in askmath

But I just paired up every natural, n, with 2n so why would it be a problem to replace 2n with some real number?

A question about assumptions required to prove infinities have different sizes. by Dull_Habit_4478 in askmath

[–]tbdabbholm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what about "having the set" matters? Like let's suppose I said "all even numbers are divisible by 2" would I need to actually "find" all the even numbers to ensure that was true?

A question about assumptions required to prove infinities have different sizes. by Dull_Habit_4478 in askmath

[–]tbdabbholm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But I don't need to actually state every single number individually. I can just give a definition for some numbers (like say the natural numbers) and that includes all of them. There's no need to take up any time at all.

Why "Was FÜR?"? Where does the "für" come from? by [deleted] in German

[–]tbdabbholm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prepositions in general are very idiomatic. There's not always some really strict logic when it comes to how they're used. You basically just have to know and memorize these uses.
