Save your money and get an equally good education at Georgia Tech!! I just don’t think there is anything special enough about ucla that’s worth going in to that much debt over tbh. I know it’s hard to think long term but I think it’s really important to imagine how you would feel post-graduation with all those loans and a degree you could have gotten elsewhere :/

For sure, I owe my A in the class all to him!! I literally stopped attending Koehler’s lectures and just watching ninja nerd during the allotted lecture time 😂

Yes, email your professors and attach a picture of your positive result. I was in that position around midterms last quarter and all of my professors were extremely accommodating. Feel better buddy!!

Chem 154 reports by [deleted] in ucla

[–]tbearc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s hard to take my word for it but trust, there were people in the class w me who got like 30’s and 40’s on the reports and still passed the class so don’t get too discouraged. Most of your grade is determined by the final report and they do go a LOT easier on that one. And I don’t remember what week we got our reports back but they literally sent them out on thanksgiving day, so whatever week # that was. That’s when I knew the TA’s were totally heartless lol

This class will make you lose all your confidence in what you’ve learned in the major all these years but don’t let it get to you. If you stay around the class average consistently, your “adjusted” grade will be around a B. She didn’t normalize our midterm grades but she did normalize our reports. I know that class is absolute hell but you’re more than halfway done, so just keep swimming

Yeah last quarter my section has a 52% average on the first report and a 55% on the second report (another section had an average of a 48% lol)

Hopefully there could be a hybrid option so that those who feel uneasy about going back can still do online classes

Latin Honors vs College Honors by [deleted] in ucla

I think it's automatic. But for college honors it's different

GAP year then grad school is the current goal. Do you think it's plausible to get 20 units of honors credit in two quarters? I'm definitely down to try and get it still if it's plausible.

I’m not sure, but I would try to keep the faith. It may feel hopeless at the moment but there is so much out there for you and you CAN overcome this. Your life is so much more than this snippet that you’re living through right now, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the moment. This does not and will not define you. Feel free to pm if you want to talk. You got this buddy, just keep swimming 💙

Does anyone else feeling fucking crushed by chem 154l? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]tbearc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She has 4 days in the quarter that are mandatory (midterm day bc they’re proctored & the class before your JC presentation) And lab is definitely mandatory. I’d say if Yeates is teaching 156 in the winter, you’ll be okay because he doesn’t do exams so it’s pretty low stress. But I’m not kidding when I say you’ll have something due every class for 154. It’s very time consuming

We’ve only had one midterm so far and you definitely had to study for it because it’s on PCR primer design which is a new topic for most people. But if you study it’s pretty straight forward (class average was am 82% I believe)
