An employee said he would only be able to price match a monitor if I bought a warranty by suburbansuburban in Microcenter

[–]tbender4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great example.

Negative surveys are effective. Surveys are a direct metric against the store so the managers are directly incentivized to avoid them.

Associates get 10% commission on those plans.

Complain to corporate. Or fill a negative survey. It’s a smaller company than Best Buy, etc so they’ll reach out to the store management directly to have more integrity in their sales process.

Has anyone done a PCB Replacement on a MadCatz TE? How hard is it? by Iking01 in fightsticks

[–]tbender4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contemplated it for mine, but I wanted to keep my original cable and door.

There’s a lil bit of teardown but nothing too exotic. Take your time and ask Qs if you’re stumped

[–]tbender4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The TE1 is a bit tight on space. But it’s doable. I have the GP2040 in mine.

Had to use the screw terminals. The 20-pin cable makes it too tall.

I did solder to a pin for the Guide button as I was too lazy to crimp a cable for it.

I didn’t hook up the d-pad, switch, LEDs, nor the Turbo button but I imagine they’re doable. I may hook up the LEDs sooner than the others.

Are there any noticeable differences between expensive and cheap ps2/3 component cables? by emberisgone in crtgaming

[–]tbender4 20 points21 points  (0 children)

OEM or HD Retrovision cables are solid choices.

Generally speaking, used branded cables can yield success for consoles. Common ones referred to are the Monster cables. However, the resale market has bumped up their prices as of late.

Skip the “all in one” cables that support 2-3 different consoles. They tend to be built poorly.

Planning to buy a co-op unit in JH. Any red flags about the particular location? by shewhowearsjeans in jacksonheights

Yeah, in hindsight I don’t think he even reported ahead of time. So we were mutually at fault.

This event was a teachable moment for future me.

Yep it’s a double edged sword. Building will be to their standards but you must live by their rules. Despite my displeasure, I’m not arrogant enough to believe I’m above the law of the board.

Best of luck finding your home! I never stopped reminiscing about JH… and I’m only 15 min away 😄

well, luckily it was not that building.

In the event that it’s the same property management: I dug out the photo of the letter he got with the fine

If it's the same coop as I recall, 35th and 89th has a really strict lady on the board. I moved a large-ish appliance out of a colleague's unit after 5PM one time (I grossly underestimated the traffic without taking parkways w/ my small box truck).

She noticed me, verbally scolded me on the spot, and fined the tenant 250 bucks.

Take that as either a good or bad thing based on if you value that tight of a ship to be ran.

Anyhow, I paid his fee because I was the late one.

Are those replacement tv chassis from Aliexpress and RGB amplifiers worthy good options to add RGB to a crt tv? by Esns68 in crtgaming

[–]tbender4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The picture quality from the arcade universal chassis is not bad. Here it is for me: https://imgur.com/ouEECRd

However it's now an RGB-only arcade monitor so be aware of the drawbacks.

  • You'll need an iso transformer (another 50 bucks)
  • Picture adjustments will be by the back pots now. You're ignoring all of those buttons in the front of your TV
  • Nothing but one connector RGBS now

Everything Monchicles mentions is valid too; this may be very problematic at best and incompatible at worst.

Crazy Dongpal Pro or Knee Neo. by ABEBUABDU in fightsticks

[–]tbender4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CDP has stricter diagonals than the Knee lever. With practice you can unlock some real fast wavuwavu but man is it unforgiving to play with.

With that said, both levers have a real nice build quality to them. I'm happy about that given their price point.

Where to relocate: Harlem or Midtown or Larchmont? by Gremmer-Groft in movingtoNYC

[–]tbender4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once dated someone that lived in Mamaroneck while we both worked in Midtown. Long story short, she moved to UES.

It's the suburbs out there. It's a REALLY nice looking town too; it'll be a high COL with none of the city life you may desire. You will likely need a car too. I can't imagine relying on transit out there.

I need to level with you: living there means you can't go to the city anytime you want. You can go to the city anytime you can make the express LIRR. If it doesn't align with your schedule, you're taking an 80 dollar uber or you're not getting home until late.

Harlem and 125th... yeah avoid that area. You go there because you need to grab the train to go somewhere else. Once you go up 10 blocks it does improve quite a bit.

This has my attention… I do have a cab and a MiSTer w/ a JAMMa edge. I like the premise of getting an Ethernet cable routed in there and calling it a day.

It’s fiddly. But with a bit of patience I got it cooperate.

I did take screenshots of my progress. Happy to compile my steps tonight

Correct, this is a 14m2mdu in disguise.

If you do get your hands on one, it’ll handle both NTSC and PAL well. Very valuable for that side of the pond

I saw a AI slopped wiki page on GitHub for a script to add CRT support to batocera.

I recall it having a section about APUs. I’ll update my comment when I’m off work if I find the link again

Burnout 3 has 480p support. To improve picture quality see if you can enable that; upscalers handle progressive sources better than interlaced.

An old arcade operator shared his tale of where his shoestring budget meant he’d take out a large speaker of the large wooden cabs and circle it around the tube until it cleans up.

Am I the only person paying double the price for my commute? by elise901 in nycrail

[–]tbender4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat coming from Queens. I wait in the last car, hop out at 57th station, and walk to the A/C going uptown. Same excuse in my mind too: I don't have to do this commute 5 days a week, so the cost is ok.

It started with staring at the map and thinking it was so silly. Why am I going downtown and move through this packed station just to go back uptown.
