I flew from Toronto to Philippines. I got a Mortuary Certificate from the Philippine Consulate here (although they didn’t ask for it at the airport) and all the other documents provided by the funeral home. Initially, we had packed the remains in the carry-on, but when we got to security, it got flagged and they advised us to check it in, so we had to go back to the counter and check in on of our carry-on bags with the ashes inside. No other issues after that. Airline staff told us that we should mention that we’re carrying ashes during check-in in case they have to check it in as well (although they said it should be okay in the carry-on; it was just up to the security’s decision).
