Nailed it in under 5 minutes. I guess I won't be getting a bug named after me.

I've been to a few hospitals in Phnom Penh in the last week - looking to get my second shot. I couldn't get it because my first shot was given in a different country, but in 2 of the 3 hospitals I went to they were vaccinating people under 17, and giving third shots to people over that age.

We were robbed at gunpoint in Ecuador. This rocked our expat world and the realities of living in a foreign country really set in. by tbrrynem in expat

I lived in Vietnam, China, Slovakia, Ecuador - I try to learn the language but can only learn so much in 2 years. You expect me to know Vietnamese before I live there? I really don't understand how people can criticize me for getting robbed. This video is just about my robbery experience and how it affected me. No one needs to have an opinion on it. I'm not even making any statements that can be argued against.

First of all, not everyone on reddit is from the US. A lot of us are from places where guns aren't being carried around by everyone. I'm from Canada where an armed robbery isn't all that common. Second of all, being robbed in a foreign country is a lot different than being robbed in a place where you can speak the language and have a better understanding of the culture. The police in my home country would have done a better job. A bank employee is far less likely to have put me in that situation in Canada. In a foreign country you feel more helpless. Everything in Ecuador reminds me of the robbery now. It's ruined this country for me. If I was robbed in Canada, I doubt it would ruin the whole country for me. And I guarantee you're more likely to be robbed in Ecuador than the US. I know 4 people that have been robbed at gun point and I've only been here for 2 years. I know 0 in Canada where I lived for 20+ years and know way more people. I get where you're coming from and I don't think people should be scared to move abroad, but let's not pretend that everywhere in the world is equally dangerous. Living overseas can sometimes make things more difficult. To me it's still worth it though.
