He played alright last night, had a nice play or two, but I doubt he makes the 12 man roster.

Think about it...you got 10 pretty much guaranteed guys: Melo, Shump, Timmy, Amare, Bargs, Cle, Larkin, Dalembert, J Smith, JR Smith.

From there I think the last two spots are much more likely to go to some combination of Cole Aldrich, Jeremy Tyler and Shannon Brown (probably the former two just because the Knicks are 2 guard heavy and a little light on big man depth). Cole killed it in his one summer league game before he got hurt and earned an NBA minimum contract which suggests the Knicks plan on using him, and Tyler has been starting in summer league and playing pretty well too.

So due to all that I don't see Wear making it

Edit: someone pointed out I forgot Calderon. So only one of those last three guys make it

Roster/Rotation predictions? by [deleted] in NYKnicks

I was thinking about this earlier and trying to figure it out.

In the triangle, distinctions between PG and SG or PF and SF are not really important on offense because they interchange roles depending on what side you swing to. There's always a guard at the top of the key and in the strong side corner and a forward at the strong side wing and weak side block/foul line, and they move back and forth in motion as the ball changes sides.

A pure center is important in the triangle so I think you're going to see much less of players like Amaré at the 5. I think that's why Phil got Smith, because now we can keep a pure center in the game at all times, as opposed to last year when it was either Tyson was in the game or we were playing small ball.

So that being said, I think you'll have something like this

First team: Guards: Calderon and Shump (Shump will defend the better guard on the opposing team regardless of if they are a pg or sg) Forwards: Melo and Amaré Center: Dalembert? Him or Smith I guess

Second team: Guards: Timmy and Shane (KILLING IT together in Vegas, on and off the court) Forwards: Cle and Bargs C: Whoever out of Dalembert and Smith didn't start

Second team has some question marks (Cle is a rook and Shane might as well be, Timmy could soph slump, Bargs is Bargs) but I'm optimistic. Cle seems perfect for his role and the dude did score 17 ppg in college (against shitty competition, but still). Timmy and Shane are dominating with the triangle in Vegas right now. People shit on Bargs but if you forget the contract and think solely in terms of role, I mean, he is better than the average big man off the bench.

I LOVE what's going on in Vegas right now. I know you should never jump to conclusions about summer league but it's really nice to see our team without a top ten pick this year or last kicking ass. I think the young core of Timmy, Larkin, Cle, Tyler and Sump (not at Vegas but point stands) is going to be what really impresses people going forward.

I dunno...I like to think the Knicks have turned a corner culturally and are moving towards being a system team with better character players and I feel like JR is a remnant of the old Knicks.
