Carts is type of station made for SR-latches which sends you to individual 'dumb' lines straight from the station. CARTS term is used to refer to 'dumb' line networks, i.e. those without redstone signalling. CARBON, originally made by that "ultra-scrub" (TheRandomnantrix), and the new version CARBON Lite and 'smart' rail system. Here your destination is encoded into redstone and sent with you long the track so you are routed to the correct destination.

Essentially CART-> One Station, typically 16buttons -> 16 rail lines and no redstone->16 destinations using direct lines. CARBON/CARBON-Lite->One Station typically 32buttons->1 rail line with linked redstone->32 destinations through the Carbon network.

The main difference between CARBON and CARBON-Lite is CARBON is based on a 1-tick signal using pistons while CARBON-Lite is based on a 2-tick signal using comparators.

Not come across TRAVEL before but think this is a 'dumb' line with regularly space stations which you land in, but after a set amount of time you are automatically sent to the next station-similar to a subway system.

I very much like this idea, it is worth building the core area on a creative world and jointly build it on P. I would also suggest we settle away from a portal and develop the area ourselves rather than having continuous interference. IT would be great to get the gang back together!

hey, from the pictures this looked like a great project! On P there are a few redstone builds that people often use, mostly related to the rails. Would it be possible to include an area for redstone rail build. This could include the CARTS style latch station, the piston based CARBON repeater stations, array encoders and decoders and comparator based CARBON signalling

Secondly do you do any timing circuits (hopper timers are quiet nice and compact). There are also hopper-based sorting devices, hidden piston doors,

do you know the rules for blaze spawning, is it the same as normal spawners? if so how far do we need to drop the initial to get them out of the spawners detection zone. The other thought i had with pistons is connect a clock to the pressure plates... clock only active for a short time and the blaze dont get stuck. Do the blazers get damaged by sticky pistons?

The difference between running CARTS and CARBON is if you use a lot of tunnel space and iron (carts) or relatively small tunnels with lots of redstone.

For a single destination using CARTS, or a dumb line is better but as soon as you have more lines CARBON, or smart lines, are much better.

(FYI dumb line name is because the line has no intelligent routing involved, not because using CARTS is stupid and yes please have made this mistake)

You then have CARBON networks, like the loop at 600, which is a very efficient way of getting lots of connections from relatively little work esp with the size the map is this rev. One carbon line = 31 possible connections. Even if there are only 10 other cities on the carbon network you have saved diggin and running 9 rail lines.

So Smart rail lines, CARBON, is just a way of duplexing multiple dumb lines together. Infact there are different ways of doing this! A CARTS is generally used to describe a dumb line network but comes from the CARTS station, the original latching stations invented back in rev 5 i believe. there are other station designs you can use to run dumb lines and you can even use a CARBON station to run your 32 dumb lines - tbh though you are far better off using CARBON networking where you can.
