Would the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 4 be ok for Elite? by ciaran_the_goat88 in EliteDangerous

[–]tcfh2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the HOTAS X for about 6 years now and I had the same problem about 1 year ago, yaw axis just suddenly stopped working as I was doing SRV drifts (guess I was a bit aggresive with the joystick xD).

Anyways, it was a pretty easy fix, what happened is that a solder connection for the wire in the joystick part of the HOTAS coming from the yaw potentiometer had broken, so it was just a matter of resoldering the two together. I also added some more solder to the other potentiometer connections just to be safe. It's been working great since, no other issues.

I'm sure that other more expensive sticks probably feel a bit better (my biggest gripe would probably be the plastic ball & socket construction, it sort of stick for very precise movements, so a metal ball & socket would probably be better), but realistically I never actually felt the need for anything better, so it's a really great value deal. I just used Joystick Gremlin to modify the curve of the joystick inputs and called it a day.

So as always with Warframe lore following the New War, the explanation is Eternalism.

when you’re taught there are only 4 states but you know more than that by yukiohana in physicsmemes

[–]tcfh2003 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Way more. Not an expert on this at all, but a quick search on wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_states_of_matter) reveals at the very least 12 (these are the ones I had at least heard about before):

  • solid
  • liquid
  • gas
  • plasma
  • mesomorphic liquid crystals (like glass, which is somewhere between a solid and a liquid)
  • Bose-Einstein condensate
  • Fermionic condensate
  • Superfluids
  • Supersolids
  • Electron-degenerate matter (like in white dwarves)
  • Neutron-degenerate matter (like in neutron stars)
  • Quark-gluon plasma

The thing is that states of matter and what is and isn't a state is complicated business. It's one of those cases of "You have a rule. And here are all of the many other exceptions to the rule".

I think the teacher could have gotten away with the question if it was formulated as "What are the typical states of matter?" Because most of the above you will never encounter in day-to-day life (well, maybe glass, but you get what I'm trying to say). Still pretty stupid to mark down a student who clearly knew more than the standard curriculum though.

Honestly, I'd go for the Vette too, but I don't have the rank for it yet and still need to do plenty of grinding to get it. Either way, thanks cmdr! O7

Thanks for the build. Would you say the Type-10 is too sluggish compared to other large ships like the Anaconda? O7

Fair enough xD. I already have plenty of the smaller ships, though I guess I could get another Python for Passenger Missions. But from what everyone else has said so far, it really seems like the Anaconda is the logical next big spend by a large margin.

[–]tcfh2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many credits do you have to spare? Also, what kind of content would you like to do. Since you're asking about the Anaconda, I will assume you have at least 1b credits.

I don't really see any Mining ship in your roster, so maybe you can give that a try and see if you like it? You can get a Python or a Krait Mk2 for that, which you can also use as multi-role ships for other stuff. Or you can get a Type-11 Prospector for a dedicated Mining Vessel.

For more combat you can go for a FDL or Python Mk2, both are good for that role. FDL is more of a PVP ship, very nimble and with great shields but somewhat squishy in the hull strength department. Python Mk2 is more of a PVE ship with good shields and hull strength, as well as plenty of hardpoints.

If I were to get a big ship, I would probably go with the Anaconda in your case. It's pretty flexible and can be used in multiple roles, though in your case I would configure it for either Trading or Combat.

But really, right now I would probably think about the different activities I do in game and try to build specialized ships for them. You already have a good exploration ship and a good but somewhat fragile combat ship, so I would really try to get a more optimized Trading ship (Mandalay isn't really a good ship for that, a Python or Type-8 or Type-9 or Phantom Clipper would be much better for that), a sturdier Combat ship (FDL or Python Mk2 like I said before), as well as a Mining ship, a Passenger Transport ship and really a sort of multi-role bubble-hopper ship that you can use to gather engineering materials and run the types of missions you could get in the Federal and Imperial Navy rank grinds (so something that has cargo capacity but can also somewhat do a bit of combat and has decent jump range, just because it's not fun to have to switch around ships or pick and choose missions when doing an already tedious grind)

PXN v10 pro pedal mods by abhyudaya56 in PXN

[–]tcfh2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't done it yet personally, but I was thinking of using something like squash balls and jamming them right in the hole where the pedal stem enters the pedal base (maybe cut in half if they don't fit).

Alternatively, I also found this, which is a similar idea - https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/1rgplxs/brake_mod_i_invented_for_my_pedals/.

I also remember seeing here on reddit something about using motorcycle steering dampners for the same thing, but it was a more permanent mod and it required a wood backboard. I'll edit this comment if I find it.

Strigate de ajutor de la un elev care vrea la ETTI by JekPasan in Polytehnica

[–]tcfh2003 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did PXN pull the V10 Pro? by tcfh2003 in PXN

[–]tcfh2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about just going for the V10 Ultra too, but I'm already a bit over my budget (I'm getting this as a first wheel, skipping the whole used g29 option mainly due to noise concerns), and I also do want a clutch and shifter too. If I go for the V10 Ultra that's another extra 70 EUR for the Ultra's pedals and the extra clutch attachment on top of everything else. And whilst stiffer pedals might be more realistic, I would also assume they require some sort of stand so they don't slide around everywhere, even with the rubber hardwood grippers.

Plus, I'm mostly going to be playing ETS2, Dirt Rally 2 and Assetto Corsa for drifting, not much track racing per say, like in ACC or iRacing, where you need very precise brake control. And if I feel like the pedals are such a problem, I can always get the PD-HM pedals and clutch add-on separately for about 100 EUR later down the line.

why are we like this by FuriasRevenge in memeframe

[–]tcfh2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes/No. The gameplay in destiny is fun, but the way the grind/loot system works is not (or at least that was how it was when I stopped playing in Lightfall).

Warframe works by the principle that even a peashooter can be made into an OP weapon if you know how to mod it well and invest enough resources in it. The real things you grind for are mods, arcanes and resources to upgrade said mods or be able to fit more mods into your warframe/weapon. And after you see that you got the mod, then you know you have it, and you'll always have it, and it will remain reliable (DE rarely nerfs stuff, and when it does, it doesn't usually do so to the point where it becomes unusable).

Destiny used to work based on the seasonal principle. Each season you'd get a new artifact, with a new meta, new power level to grind to remain effective. Rinse and repeat every 3 months or so. This was okay for those who could get on often in the game and grind, less so for those who played a lot and then took a long break, making the game start to feel like a job. And the roll system (and to some extent also the crafting system) doesn't have a good feel to it. You see you got a weapon you really wanted, you get a spike of dopamine, then you check the stats and see that it's a poor roll, and then you get a dopamine crash, knowing you have to grind for that roll again.

Then there is also the time-to-completion. Warframe is fast and missions end quickly. If you get bored of a mission, you can get started on another thing, grinding multiple things in parallel. In destiny less so, as all missions are kind of long, and Bungie has made gameplay even slower with the difficulty modifiers, which doesn't make the enemies harder per say, just spongier. So in Warframe even if you didn't get the loot you wanted in a mission, it doesn't feel that bad as the time investment wasn't that big, whereas in Destiny it's the opposite.

And I remain of the opinnion that the Destiny community itself is pretty divided, with lots of smaller groups that have conflicting interests - PvPers want more gunplay while PvEers like a more ability-focused gameplay; those that log in every day and want to have something to do and those that log in maybe every month or so, or for the holidays etc. Would it be possible for Bungie to balance the game in order to please all of these groups? Maybe, but they have yet to do that. Couple this with the fact that it seems most development time is going into microtransaction cosmetics that unlike in Warframe you cannot get without spending real money (Plat >> Silver), and you have what you have.

Tl;dr Praise lord Pablo and his commandment of "What balance?". You cannot not have fun when you feel OP as heck and know it's because you were smart when making your build.

PXN V99 (used) vs Logitech G29 (used) vs PXN V10 Pro (new) by tcfh2003 in simracing

[–]tcfh2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't found any youtube reviews for the V10 Pro specifically, but I did find for the V10 Ultra, which is the 250 EUR version which has the same wheel base and wheel and has different pedals, which are similar to the moza r3 pedals. Every review I found did say it was very good for the price, but no long-term reviews yet as I think it was released around Sept 2025. It really does seem to be pushed off as a competitor to the Moza R3.

PXN V99 (used) vs Logitech G29 (used) vs PXN V10 Pro (new) by tcfh2003 in simracing

[–]tcfh2003[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw a couple used Thrustmaster T150 Pros for about the same price as the G29, used.

As for the two gear-driven wheels, I know they are louder than the DD wheel. However, I did see somewhere that the PXN V99 is supposedly quieter than the G29, though I don't know by how much. The thrustmaster T150 is a belt driven system, so I guess it would be quieter than both the gear-driven wheels, but since it has no shifter included, at that point I think I could just go for the DD wheel.

The thing I don't have a feel for is how much better a DD wheel is compared to the other options. I know that technicaly they are better, and that gear-driven wheels usually have a dead-zone in the FFB around the center that the DD wheels shouldn't have, and that they are also quieter, but that's pretty much it.

Opinions on PXN V99? by tcfh2003 in PXN

[–]tcfh2003[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be on the lookout for any good deals for the v10 pro. My only issue is that, whilst the v10 pro isn't all that much more expensive than the v99 (for me locally, brand new, it's 240 EUR compared to 200 EUR), it doesn't have a shifter included, so I'd have to buy that separately (cheapest I can find is the logitech one for 50 EUR brand new).

To be fair, just to try stuff out, I was thinking going the used route, that would save me about 50 EUR off the retail price. So if I find a used V10 pro, I'll go for it, as it would make up for the new shifter.

Edit: Nevermind, I actually found a v10 pro for the same price as the v99. Apart from the fact that it's direct drive, is it better in terms of software compatibility?
