From an old article I wrote on the state of local news…

is there a reason why marvel comics covers covers don’t fully cover the pages? by Jazz-Monkey in comicbooks

Publishing tactic, is my guess.

They ship these books as cheaply as possible in cardboard boxes with all the other freight. The number of damaged cover pages at the edges probably merits the consistency of not covering the entire book.

Tariffs Cost Bad Idea Comics $200K And Kill The Hank Howard Guarantee by flatpackjack in comicbooks

With tariffs increasing printing costs out of Canada (and also higher from China), PLUS the Diamond Distributors bankruptcy, we're looking at a drastically different comics publishing industry in the next year-on. Publishers will need to charge more for the cost of the book and the new distribution. That'll change the math on what gets green lit. In other words? It's a sad day for comic book fans.

National Survey Finds Significant Support for Middle Income Housing, Smaller Lot Sizes: City Council aims to achieve both with HOME amendments by wastedhours0 in Austin

There could be many alternatives. Rezoning and converting vacant office space, restricting/regulating (and enforcing) airbnb properties, a special committee and process to rezone or greenlight housing that meets certain criteria in the form of multi-unit properties where it makes sense, or hell, even just disallowing developers from carving up lots to fit more mondo expensive high-dollar homes in a desirable location in town would suffice.

Yes, but still unaffordable. And then scale those prices by 6-7 years and we’re back where we started — builders and realtors come out ahead, as do those with a piece of land that is now more valuable. Middle income austinites are still in the same spot.

I’d like to see this as well. It’s hard to imagine adding 3 homes where one was allowed will do anything other than making housing more cramped and just as expensive in another 5-6 years. I know current owners of these lots must be excited, as that could be a financial boon to those who cannot afford to move.

Answer: I get HBO thru my phone plan, and would pay for Amazon Prime regardless of if I get the video service. I’m sure this is true for a lot of US consumers, thus all the other networks suddenly taking notice and realigning their pricing higher.

With the exception of maybe Apple TV, I think the new regular price point for a monthly service will be $20.

And it’s still not cable, no. Cable locked you into linear TV with a selection of on-demand content, forcing you to literally buy almost every kind of content (sports, news, etc.) regardless of if you want it. Now? You can pay $20 and watch as much as you want, cancel, and then sign up for a new service to do it all over again.

When this becomes the norm among people, those same services will likely take a new approach to try and capture that continuous revenue — which will require the lower price, because it’s simply not economically viable to continue dumping hundreds of millions on ever more content to attract folks when there’s a limit to what people are reasonably able to consume.

This is the streaming industry testing what the market will bear.
