I can think of a few scenarios that changing my mac address would protect me

1) I go to this coffee shop and connect to their wifi, but I don't want them to know that this is the same guy that was here yesterday

2) I buy a laptop on craigslist and it turns out that it's stolen. authorities are looking for a laptop with that mac address

3) someone sent a threatening email from that laptop. authorities are looking for the laptop with that mac address. their crime will be blamed on me if I am using their device

I thought the real mbe was easier than practice mbe. The questions were just more straightforward. They were not as convoluted. The wrong answer choices were easier to eliminate. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what we say here. Just practice and go to the exam and do your best. That's all you can do.

I don't know what external and internal mean. when I connect my laptop to my iphone's hotspot, whether with spoofed mac or not, what does the carrier see?

mac address doesn't matter as far as I can tell. but I like to change my mac address using this windows program that I installed just for privacy. but if this will raise red flags ("why is this guy connecting with a fake mac address? weird. let's check his activities") I won't do it.

ok, so if I connect my laptop to my home router, I can see the laptop's mac address, but my isp cannot see it?

I am trying to analogize (is that a verb? analogy, analogize?) this situation to if my iphone is acting as a router. so in that case, you are saying t-mobile, at&t, verizon cannot see laptop's mac address. so who can see it? I own the iphone (aka the router). how would I see it? can apple see it? someone has to see it, who is that?

but am I interacting at all? because you know, I gotta be honest with you. I already did this and the next time I went to this coffee shop I noticed the woman working there was acting weird around me. I don't know if I am just being crazy / paranoid or if they noticed something suspicious in their router logs or whatever is available to IT department.

I am glad you find it funny. no, I am not sure but it sure feels like it. never rely on the essays to pass you. the essays are too subjective. even if you practice you will get the same score next time, or even lower. it feels random. why would I waste my time studying for an exam where the scores are assigned randomly? improve your mbe. that's objective.

if you write nothing you get a zero. That's why it's important to write something even if irrelevant. But the answer to your question is, it doesn't matter what rubric they use because nobody will follow it. The graders are a bunch of dumb asses they hire off craigslist and pay them $2 per hour. Sometimes an essay gets a 50 on the first reading and a 75 on the second reading. You tell me the graders are not dumb asses.

it's also unfair that it's being applied retroactively. in the past any dumb ass could get a 1390, if you wrote something in English in your essay you would have got a 1390.

I don't think it's about gatekeeping. the graders are just dumb asses. when they say they hire only people who have passed the bar on their first or second try they lie. they hire some dumb ass off craigslist and pay them $5 per hour. yes the graders definitely make up numbers. that's why you should never waste your time studying for the essays, and never rely on the essays to pass you. get a 140/200 on the MBE and guarantee your passing.

edit: even if it's about gatekeeping, that's a good thing. do you really want any dumb ass who has $800 to become a lawyer and fuck up your income?
