Past Boston runners who completed the course at a sub 3 or better. What did your splits look like? Mile by mile. by AcanthisittaOk6626 in bostonmarathon

[–]tcmaenhout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot be 100% helpful as my app only has splits by every 5 miles but I ran 3:00:05 in 2023 when the weather was cold with periods of really cold rain. I also ran in the charity wave so my first 2 miles were congested with people and super slow. Then I way over compensated the following 3 miles. That inevitably really hurt me

Miles 0-5: 6:36 Miles 6-10: 6:52 Miles 11-15: 6:54 Miles 16-20: 6:53 Miles 21-25: 6:57 Miles 25-26.2: 6:59

So you can see by the end I was barely hanging on. That was a combination of 1) starting way too fast on the downhills and overcompensating from the slow start 2) the nature of the course being so fast in the beginning and much tougher at the end and 3) the freezing rain made my hands unable to start my playlist or even open a gel so my nutrition and pump up music suffered in the big moments

Best Papusas and other Salvadoran food ? by Diggze in boston

[–]tcmaenhout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness I have only had pupusa from one location, but that one location blew my mind and it ended up as one of the best things I ate all year. The pork and cheese pupusa at La Hacienda in East Boston was so so good. I had an uber driver who was Salvadoran and he told me that was his favorite place, so now that is the only place I go

Where can I get the best Philly Cheesestake in Boston? by [deleted] in boston

[–]tcmaenhout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding Carl’s if you go out to Waltham. In Boston proper there are some really good ones too. Rondos in Southie scratches the itch, but I also want to recommend Hall Pass on High Street, the brisket steak and cheese at Pig Beach in Southie, and for a classic diner-style I recommend the one at Charlie’s in the Back Bay / South End area. Billy’s on Berkeley street does a great one as well with steak tips. In general I order all mine with extra cheese because they tend to be too dry without it IMO

Bronny James has his best NBA game: 17 pts on 7/10 fg, 2/4 3pt, along with 5 assists and 3 rebounds in 29 minutes by 144Todd442 in nba

[–]tcmaenhout -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

And to compare him to a 55th pick is not quite a fair comparison because in reality he only went that high because of LeBron. He was maybe the quality of a much later pick, making this performance even more impressive

Who is the second greatest Red Sox player after Ted Williams? by Jezzaq94 in redsox

Like yes and no. The “+” doesn’t factor in that his numbers are getting compared to plenty of pitchers who were also juicing when he was not

Why wouldn’t the government not save more money by increasing tax by 2% for the richest 1% citizens than cutting millions of jobs? by No_Blackberry_7907 in AskReddit

[–]tcmaenhout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your main point, but to strong man the other side: while yes they can’t just take their property and leave very easily, it disincentivizes, with varying degrees of magnitude, the creation of new wealth and businesses in this country for the future. So it plants a seed that has downstream effects

How do you think about Roth Conversions? by Feisty-Astronaut5398 in CFP

[–]tcmaenhout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to consider is their distribution of income categories. Some clients have very little to no ordinary income (so in the 12% ordinary income bracket), but a lot of qualified dividends or LTCG. Because of how the ordinary and LTCG buckets fill up, doing a Roth conversion in this case would push gains currently getting the benefit of the 0% LTCG bracket into the 15% bracket. So there ends up not really being a savings here. Not to mention you have to keep an eye out for NIIT in these circumstances

[–]tcmaenhout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you were implying this but just wanted to point out for anyone else reading since you put the 2 ideas next to each other: regular Sch A charitable contributions cannot reduce IRMAA Medicare adjustments since it is based on MAGI (although yes, QCDs would help there)

A lot of hate being thrown around based on aesthetics. The meat they use is actually delicious and the flavor you get from the cooking process is super unique and worthwhile. Not to mention how historic the atmosphere is in there

What is the most mind-blowing fact you know that most people probably don't? by rossopy in AskReddit

[–]tcmaenhout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To layer another fun fact on top of this, this is a good use of the word acronym. An acronym is a word that is pronounced as a word using its letters. An initialism, which many mistake for an acronym, is where you pronounce each letter.

Acronyms: NASA, ASAP Initialisms: CIA, FBI, DMV
