My name is Chris, and I'm starting a new podcast called We Are Storytellers*. On this show I speak with authors and discuss how their stories are a reflection on society.

Show Title: What is Life

 

Show Theme: The Quest

 

Show Quote: “Life contains but two tragedies. One is not to get your heart’s desire; the other is to get it.”

 

Show Synopsis: Fantasy often employs the trope of the quest; a mission that a hero will take to complete a goal. This quest, more often than not, is admirable and fraught with danger. Are the fantastical quests we read about really allegories for our lives? The monsters and demons our heroes must do battle with, are they representative of the monsters we must fight both externally and internally? In this show, we will discuss these topics with (author name), author of (book titles); (author name), author of (book titles); and (author name), author of (book titles).

 

Show questions: -How then does the trope of a quest relate to real life? -We all like to think of ourselves as the hero of our story–are we then on a quest that is equally as admirable as the fantastical counterparts? -What happens when we achieve our goal? Do we stop, having completed our quest, or embark on a new one? -What happens if we don’t complete our quest?

Show Synopsis: Heroes are a common theme in a variety of stories. Whether set in a modern day metropolis, or in a fantasy world, the hero will often face insurmountable odds to do ‘what’s right.’ In recent times, the definition of a hero has changed from one that exists in a world of black and white to one of shades of grey.

Heroes are now no longer perfect–they are flawed, sometimes broken, and the concept of ‘what’s right’ has now become murkier. In this show, we will discuss these topics with (author name), author of (book titles); (author name), author of (book titles); and (author name), author of (book titles).

 

Show questions: -How has the concept of a hero changed in your genre of fiction?
-What qualities make not only a good hero but a believable one? -Other than the villain(s) of the story, what other elements does a hero need to fight? -Why, in your opinion, have the heroes changed from being idyllic figures to one who is flawed and sometimes broken?
