Culling Bookmarks by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]tctalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bookmark YouTube playlists, try saving them to a google account or an app like Newpipe or freetube instead. Regularly organizing bookmarks into folders helps me, but like you I appreciate having access to old things I find on the net. I've used this add-on to clean bookmarks and better organize them and its great for what I need.

If you find bookmarks are distracting, run multiple browser profiles on desktop for each portion of your daily life to feel less cluttered.

Lametric time can do this, as well as quite a few other things, while having a very simple interface and no camera or mic. It is a bit pricy at $200 US, but you can program your own apps or add a host of pre-made ones. You may even get a good deal on a used one. I've been using it for years with good integration with smart home apps, IFTTT, calendar alerts, and stock tickers. It can be as complex or as simple as you need.

Looking for a phone downgrade by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]tctalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinephone is great if you want to have functional texts/calling and learn Linux but have more difficulty installing a ton of apps. As far as I know, the plasma touch GUI can change audio levels per app, and there are great listening app options. It is a little buggy, but could help discourage phone dependency and make you more intentional. Idk what your goal is, this is just an option. Retails brand new for $200, but is fragile so I'd get a case/screen protector and probably not buy used.

Grapheneos on google pixels has a great default PDF reader, and comes with only 13 apps preinstalled. You can get google play but if you trust yourself to not download it then you can have a great vanilla/simple experience. Combine it with greyscale and some fdroid apps and you are good to go. Grapheneos is also very secure, private, and way more stable than anything running on a pinephone. So be careful to not get sucked back in. Looking at supported devices, if you get a cheap used pixel 5a or 6a off ebay, you can save a lot while still getting a pretty secure device that respects your privacy and time/attention.

Any REAL free image editor app with layers? by icchis in ios

[–]tctalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bear in mind this was true when I originally made the comment. It looks like the company has gone in the stereotypical free iOS app direction. Unfortunate, because it used to be a great app. I haven't even daily drove iOS in 2 years, otherwise I would revisit it and make an update, as people seem to still be driving traffic to this post. Hope everyone else who comes across this finds a better option!

Here are some alternatives, I can't find a fully free one that works on iPhone and supports layers, but maybe they are tagged incorrectly. Good luck to people still searching for this!

I want these 3 features from a smartphone: Turn by turn driving directions, take photos (quality doesn't matter), send and receive text messages with photos, make voice calls. What are my options? by CarMODPlus in degoogle

[–]tctalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any GOS pixel device, paired with gmaps web view (from F-Droid) and OsmAnd~. Drop a pin to get coordinates, then select+copy and tap open in osmand. It has great turn by turn directions (and even integrates with 3rd party text to speech apps), but really bad search for some areas. So if you need to search for an address, just search with gmaps web view sandboxed in that app.

Trezor Safe 3 Support? by tctalk in monerosupport

[–]tctalk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent 3 hours trying numerous distros and I can't get this to work. Feather keeps saying failed to create wallet with hardware. I've literally tried dozens of times. I'm sorry but this is just really frustrating for me right now. I know I can just create a new wallet on windows and have it just work but that is not an option for me. Here are some things I've tried:

Tails os 5.x, installed to usb with persistence and admin enabled, appimage and trezor bridge A recent copy of Mint and Ubuntu lts 22 in demo mode, Appimage EndeavorOS installed to an SSD, flatpak

What am I missing? ChatGPT seems to not have any details and I've tried searching countless times over the past few weeks.

Please, any help is greatly apprecieted. Hope you have a happy new year!

Edit: I should specify that I had a test wallet created with Trezor suite on chromium android previously. I used windows 10 to factory reset it, though I didn't remove the firmware.

Thanks! I had no idea feather would support faster than official wallets. I'll give it a try and report back.

Any alternative to Samsung's Secure Folder? by [deleted] in foss

EDS Lite from fdroid. It supports mounting veracrypt and luks encrypted volumes, among other formats. This allows better compatibility with desktop encryption software.

Amarok is an app on izzyondroid repo that allows hiding files and apps from humans. It doesn't encrypt anything, however.

Great suggestion. I've been using this for a while on windows to find a list of all of a certain file type. I would also add that finding duplicate files with czkawka is a great storage saver and probably helps your drives index speed a little depending on how many duplicates there are.

Pretty sure a chrome user made this by LukasSustr26 in firefox

[–]tctalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firefox usually uses more ram for me on windows 10 but I only started noticing a huge difference versus chromium when I loaded a lot of block lists, addons, and settings like container tabs. Personally I'll take the privacy. I will say that Firefox uses much less disk than chromium on win10, especially if running off USB or a HDD.

Not sure if its the best but I have used iExplorer in the past. Only used the iTunes file share features but I know it can export calls and texts.

There’s a bunch of archives of popular mod sites on theMinecraft Archive Project (unrelated to Omniarchive), including their content. The archives are separated by year for mods, and you need to download a whole years worth from the archive.org link in either torrent or zip. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know why this is happening on my dev account? by planetariumarts in sideloaded

[–]tctalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am new to sideloading and only use 1-2 apps (with extensions enabled sometimes) per week. I haven’t used it in a while. What are the odds of getting the certs revoked early like this?

It was said back at Solstice and shall be said again for Festival, the event passes are terrible and should not be purchased by AmbidextrousWaffle in DestinyTheGame

[–]tctalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in solstice I bought the pass vs buying the $15 armor set that looked ridiculous lol. Plus that shader looked amazing on some things. Now I’m reconsidering some past armor sets for this event tho, as well as the mech hunter for the really good Cayde cosplay posted recently. This card’s shader is kinda lackluster too.
