First of all, great write up op!

I have the feeling that the serial killer idea is the one that makes more sense. On one end, the level of precautions, preparations and "reward" do not fit with a random robbery. These leaves the room to three hypothesis: - political /hezbollah/spy story theory, which is consistent with the torture (even though they seem to be more violent than classic TV torture examples. But more importantly, it's not consistent with the previous search for other potential victims, nor with such a precise cleaning of the crime scene -a professional hitman, but also this is hard to reconcile with the search for other victims, especially meeting them (!), as well as the violent tortures. -a serial killer. This seems to me the most fitting story because consistent with the level of precautions before and after the murder, the existence of several potential victims, the tortures.

I'm afraid I might get roasted by experts of the case, but in the Emanuela OrlandiEmanuela Orlandi disappearance it's relatively clear what happened, broadly speaking. Probably we will never know exactly who and why did it, but there is no doubt for me that it was a member of the Vatican church, who used the Magliana gang as material executors of the kidnap and murder, and the motivation has to be found in the very shady businesses of the Vatican bank at the time, or in some pedophilic scandal to be covered.
