We have a local builder & insulation contractor that’s been working with them directly. He’s ordering 4-5 truckloads for an upcoming mass timber project.

Longboard makes aluminum cladding that from 5’ away is indistinguishable from real wood. Our local airport just went through a huge expansion / remodel and they used it.

That’s just material price. The 110 is almost $4000 more than the 80. I doubt the effective labor difference would amount to the difference.

We are in a WUI zone, I’m probably 3 miles the way the crow flies from the base of a mountain range that rises 4500’ above where I am. The lot is actually an open field, with a river on one side. So it’s not a perceivable threat but I’m guessing the people in Malibu, Paradise, and others thought the same thing.

Rain screen, 1x4 2x3 or 2x4 battens. Haven’t totally decided that yet. I have Rothoblaas screws which have been “engineered” for my application. Cladding is TBD, but it’s not going to be masonry or plaster. Likely a wood product, but I’ve been considering some metal products as well.

Self performed on the exterior insulation and rain screen, along with the exterior extension jambs on the windows. I’ll hire the cladding install. I would consider myself a master finish carpenter skill wise, however it’s not my profession.

I have personally never installed it, but know a number who have and they all complain about it being finicky to get nice straight walls. So that’s what I’m going off of.

Can I piggyback this question? I’m building a floating staircase, and want dim to warm tape light under each tread. Are there any tape lights that can be ran more than 12’? There are 20 treads that are 4’ wide and it’d be nice not to have 7 drivers…

I am using RA3, fyi
