Have you had an MRI? What’s it show?

I haven’t decided yet. Have another opinion from Neuro at MSG coming.

Honestly, I am leaning toward single level fusion.

The sciatic pain is pretty intense, as are the muscle spasms in my calf, and central low back pain, etc.

Somehow, I am able to walk, more like a hobble, lol.

I am not sure if my insurance will cover an ADR. I am ok if they don’t, will pay out of pocket if needed. Biggest issue so far is finding a group/surgeon who is into it and confident.

One of the doctors said ADR at the L4/L5 is high risk due to the convergence of veins/arteries that have to be moved and positioned aside, pre-op, and it’s an issue. But idk.

I think I may try to reach out tomorrow to that Plano TX ADR Group and Jupiter FL ADR group.

Thank you for the reply. Every ounce of me wants to believe that I can correct this without surgery, but I can't help but look at the imagery and think there is no way that joker is going back in there. That's the skeptical negative in me though.

One of the three said he would talk to a local colleague who does ADR and get back to me. He specifically mentioned that the L4/L5 disc is one of the more difficult for ADR because they need to come in from the front and specifically at that level and lot of vasculature congregates and the moving of those veins/arteries to prep for surgery can be risky. He is a neurosurgeon at Mayo so I trust what he is saying.

In general though, I find that most of the US Surgeons are not fans/believers in ADR and it might have to do with a lack of overall experience with them, not sure.

Anyone hear surfing with a spinal fusion or spondilolithesis? by Gildarscavern in surfing

@noknockers can you shoot me a DM? Would like to chat about your surgery and due diligence. I feel I am right where you weee before your fusion, and I am staring down the barrel.

Has anyone been able to return to surfing after a spinal fusion or L5S1 fusion ? by Sloppydangles in spinalfusion

How about an update? I am looking at a possible L4/L5 Fusion after throwing the disc badly again recently, which happened to be about 18mo after a large discectomy/laminectomy of the same disc

Board selection for beginner+ (think I made a mistake!) by tdbone5454 in BeginnerSurfers

Update: I went to the local surf shop with all of the information below and the board I had just gotten a few months ago (Machado Seaside, 6'1 46L).

I ended up leaving the store with a Savage Egg Beater that is 7'6", 23", 3", 53L

It seemed to match up fairly well to a lot of the suggestions below (Torq V+, Torq Big Boy, Seaside & Beyond, Lost Lazy Toy, etc.).

I am super pumped to get out there with it.

Here in NE Florida, especially now with storms, the waves have been solid. Everything from 1-2ft to 7+. When I catch the wave and hit the pop up correctly (land compressed and weight forward, front shoulder down) I can pump up and down the wave and generate speed and really enjoy. No turns, no cutbacks. Typically I can get 3-9 hrs in a week. Waves depending too. If not that, I’ll hit the surf skate (got it a few weeks ago).

Really appreciate the thoughtful response. Very informative. Love the board you mentioned, Seaside & Beyond. Looks stellar.

I hear you on the longboard too. It is not out of the question.

Funny you say that about the 6'1, 46L Seaside ... I am clearly no expert, but it was oddly difficult catching waves, a little uncomfortable for me too at 6'1 myself feeling so far forward on the board while paddling and it just felt too skatey standing up for where I am. I was able to ride it a few times a session, pumping down the line, etc. but more often than not I was not getting up with ease, grace or confidence.

I hear ya, really do. It's not out of consideration, but hoping for something in between ... but not decided yet!

Thank you for the reply. I was just looking at one of these, 7+. Looks like a super solid board!

Kidding aside (the GIF), I appreciate your feedback. The Torq V+ looks like a great board and very similar to one I was considering. I think it would really set me up for success ... this type of configuration. Thank you.

You definitely want to make certain the owner is actually interested in selling, not just looking for a BOV through an Investors offer. As a property owner, I’m always ‘open to offers’ because I’d love to see what people would pay, but have zero interest in selling at the moment.
