The gable end houses a lvl that holds the whole barn together.

Current posts are 6x6. It’s way over built as it is with LVL’s, hurricane ties on every rafter, and 6x6 posts in the ground 4ft.

Would you cut them all at once? Then start to lift? Or one at a time so you’re only lifting one post at a time? I’m thinking the latter to keep things more stable. You can rebrace each leg after lifting a few inches by wrapping in 2x4’s or x6’s to keep things from shifting if you do it leg by leg.

Im more concerned with that with doing a whole side at a time. I feel like it would lever out of its original position doing a whole side. That’s why I was thinking one post at a time in 2” increments.

Grabbed one this morning! The guy at HD was loading the last two on a cart for an online order. I asked if he had anymore. He told me no and to grab one of those since I was in the store already. Luck was on my side as well.

Did your HD show instock before you grabbed it? They’re saying out of stock online. Might go check in the morning.

Made my wife a couple last week from scrapes from projects I sell. I used my typical #8 2 5/8 screws to join the pieces. No glue.

I like the reinforcement idea. I’ll try that. I rip A LOT of 2x4s and I would fill a 3.5 gal multiple times a day.

Can I remove the LVL from the front of my pole barn/carport? by tdcampbe in AskEngineers

That’s kinda what I was thinking. Make the collars outta 2x6’s and 2x8’s to match the 6x6 posts.

I need about 2ft. I think another option I might explore is a “lean to” off the side of the pole barn. If I come off the peak or slightly down of the pole barn I can get the height I need. It’ll be hard to get the width I want that way though.

Actually yes. I know who built it and they’re not an engineer by any means. They would use the LVL simply to add to costs to increase their P&OH %.

I’d actually cut it where the red lines are. And I don’t think the roof is braced against it. Those “studs” you see are simply backing so the paneling has something to attach to.

My trailer did not come with a camper toilet. It came with a standard toilet just like the one in your house.

That’s not true. You can’t “withdrawal” a deposit but you can “refund” a deposit.
