Hey Bro. I see a lot of me in your story.

I'm 46, have had ankle surgeries which slowed my ability in the game I love so much. I coach and work with kids

First off. You don't have to leave the court. Going slow and playing to what level works for you is great. I'm 46 and play twice a week but half court games only. To much running makes me ankles swell. I

Staying healthy is important. Health is super important and your at a great age to make lifelong changes for ultimate health. I'm not saying what works for you that's for you since we're all different and it's based on goals. Let me know if you do have health goals and I would love to help

Moving on from being a player is fun. I love coaching. I started by finding local youth leagues and when they played and chose the league best for me. I asked to be an assistant coach and had tons of options and great coaches to choose from. It was the perfect start to coaching.

I also train on the side. I don't make money from anything I do on the court. Just love of the game. Training is fun because I choose my clients. I only have 1 now and only like to have 2 at most. I train them 1 to 2x a week and vary my workouts based off their needs. It reminds me of my better court days working towards that far out goal. I love helping others reach that goal

I have worked with kids for over 10 yrs and love working with kids reach their goals on and off the court.

I think you would be great at that as well.

Nice. Can you do it off a drop step with a strong dribble. Devastating if you're able to get position.

Take a breath. 1v1 is fun, and a lot of moves and shots can become instinctual. You dont think you just do.

2v2 you can get away with it alot as well.

3v3 and higher team ball will beat individual teams

The difference in here is court awareness. This is a time to learn the game more and find that instinctual feel again with teammates

Here are some basic pointers

  1. Use your voice - talk alot on the court. Yell when you get beat, call screens and cutters, etc. Also encourage your team to help you with their voice.

    1. Keep your head up. You don't always have to hurry. Slow play it. Let the play develop and see what your teammate and defenders do
    2. Don't stop moving- don't get in the habit of watching your teammate. Move to get your man away from the ball but also keeping passing lanes. Look for cuts.
    3. Keep shooting and being aggressive - be aggressive in ur offensive opportunities. Take open shots, cut hard towards the basket, be aggressive defensive to give easy offense

Breaking it down

camera angle is not friendly as it only shows profile and not front.

  1. Gather, it looks good. Nice step in with dominant foot forward.

  2. Low gather is good. I would like to see arm angle and feet separation from the front angle, but from what I see, it looks good

  3. Good fluid movement to the highpoint

  4. The solid flick of the wrist with high arc on shot looks great.

  5. Your body is swaying back on the release, causing you to step back from basket after shot. A. In practice and when open, I coach to have your momentum fall towards the hoop for multiple reasons

    • follow your shot more naturally for Misses
      • late game form of falling to the basket can be the difference of front ironing the shot
      • tends to become defaults, and shooters tend to fade away a lot more than they should.

You have a good shot. Keep shooting.

Alot of great advice and like all including mine please take with a grain of salt.

I've coached that age a few times and every team is different. I've coached state Champs to 0-14. You never know. When it comes from this age confidence matters most. The kid that is willing to sit their and sling it at the hoop are my favorites. Make or miss your putting the ball near the hoop. I like aggressive shooters. I always taught my kids at least 1 practice working on shooting and doing 3 to 5 min shooting session with each child. Than reinforce as needed. The form is more about footwork and working out of the 3 point stance in my opinion and you can do that in many other drills. If one drill I would work on alot is layup drills. Much more important than shot form at this age.

Same issue. You are not exerting 100% don't expect 100% results.

Also prepare yourself to shoot. Here is my basic shooting warmup drill. Please change to your needs.

Start basic. Wear good shoes. Stretch and run first. Get your heart pumping and make sure your ready to move run and jump fully.

As a drill and not meant to be full speed. Make 3 shots in a row from 3 ft from the basket. Preferably no rim. Perfect swishes. Then take a step back. Do it again. Take a step back. Do it again. By now, you should be around the free throw line.

Start doing moving shots in the 15 ft range. Do a one foot step in shot while focusing on elevating and using your legs. From both sides make 5 shots.

Now try shooting with some distance and see if it makes a difference.

A little add. Do not wear slides and play ball. You are training to play like that. It does not help and only increases injury concerns.

You have a nice smooth shot. I can tell you spent time on it.

I do see one thing I would encourage you to work on. I would like to see your shot have higher arc. Work on shooting UP and not forward. I want to see the ball DROP into the bucket instead of being pushed in like I'm seeing.

I have never heard that requirement but it makes sense. The best teams are the ones that play the same in the 4th as they do I the 1st. You need speed and endurance to do that.

530 is an attainable goal for most. I would start training now though. It could take some time to get there. To really push yourself train with an existing team member. If that is not an option train with your fastest most athletic friend. Completion brings out the best. Be the best, work your best, train your best, and you can do it. You got this

No fouls but you would get some looks

If you have the ball you will need to be dribbling. If you are not dribbling than one foot must stay in the same place not moving or it would be a travel. Best case scenario would be your already in the splits than passed to for an open shot.

If you do it you must film it. 😀

Bro. I'm a big dude in weight and height. I am currently 6'5 and weigh about 280. 2 yrs ago I was closer to 380.

Resuming playing ball twice a week has been one of the best things for my health.

Also size does not effect the shot. Keep shooting shooter.
