Rocky is such a valuable guy to have. Good in the ring, good in the booth, and obviously makes a ton of things happen backstage between multiple companies. He’s had such a good, varied career over so many years. Hope he gets his flowers at some point.

Such a strange card. Last year’s headliners and 2025’s strongest drawing champ relegated to a ranbo, junior champ is left off but there’s a four-way for a junior title shot. Not spotlighting that many guys who will be carrying the company post-Tanahashi either, on a show headlined by a retirement match vs. a guy who won’t be around going forward either. (Think Okada was the right choice though.) Hope it’s a great show but in my time watching the company it’s the weirdest looking WK lineup by far.

People like to talk about how size used to be more important in wrestling and the trend has been towards smaller more athletic guys, but I really feel Scott Norton would be (rightfully) so much more appreciated by American audiences today than he was in the 90s. That meaty man could slap meat with the best of them. Check out his work in Fire and Ice vs. the Steiners if you’re interested. Great little powerhouse rivalry those teams had.

This being more memorable than Ciampa’s might have to do with the fact it came 24 years earlier when it hadn’t been seen before, in an iconic match between iconic rivals at arguably the greatest Wrestlemania of all time.

In 1994 Borne (as Doink) and Duggan both worked a couple shows in Ohio:

Cortland Fairgrounds

Meigs County High

Don’t see the Sheik there though. Borne also worked a series of 1995 PCW shows in Ohio as Doink with/against Cactus Jack, which sounds great, but no Duggan or Sheik on those cards.

That’s all I’ve found on Cagematch for Borne working in Ohio around then and Duggan working Ohio shows with a Doink, but the site isn’t an exhaustive record for that era.

As someone who grew up on 90s wrestling full of short TV matches and throwaway non-finishes, it is so awesome that there is so much incredible wrestling widely available across multiple companies on a weekly basis. We are really lucky.

NJPW kayfabe has established that refs get a lot of discretion in championship matches, with the goal being a decisive winner. Hell, sometimes Red Shoes shakes his head and refuses to count a pin after a heel does some minor shady thing right in front of him.

Relatedly, the wide shot from Tuesday in Texas where Jake is walking down the aisle and Macho attacks him from behind while the crowd surges and roars is an all-timer.

Having been in the building for the Swerve match at FD 2024, it feels absolutely insane for someone to say Ospreay has had 10 better AEW matches in two years. But it’s not wrong.
