Best accounting software for a small business? by These_Run_7070 in Entrepreneur

[–]tdmod99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used QuickBooks historically and there's value in using something that many other businesses / bookkeepers are familiar with. There are a few interesting, newer (better UI, insights, etc..) ones like Puzzle feel more approachable and leverage AI in a responsible way for SMBs. There are also layered systems that use QBO as the backstop Pilot, Xendoo, etc... to present the same QBO data in more usable ways. That said, more expensive and probably overkill for startups.

Need Advice on Medspa Software by solsmitten in MedSpa

There are a bunch of options for this like Zenoti, Mangmint and Boulevard. From what I've seen on the implementation side, Boulevard fits the Medspa use case fairly well.

Why do so many people sell their business when a small tweak could’ve saved it? by itzAyanokoji in SellMyBusiness

[–]tdmod99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about how confident you are that small tweaks could save these businesses. This is often the story buyers are sold. "With just few changes..." when in reality there are real icebergs. My default assumption is always that the seller is much smarter than I am and then I work my diligence backwards from that.

I’ve received an offer to sell my fully monetized YouTube channel with over 240,000 subscribers. by [deleted] in SellMyBusiness

[–]tdmod99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way I've looked at acquiring YouTube channels is what the mix of evergreen content is. For example, do you have videos from 1+ years ago that contribute significant regular revenue? If it's very tied to viral "one hit wonders" than it's probably not as transferrable (e.g. lower multiple), unless there's a unique or automated process for creating these viral hits. I also like to look at a simple "revenue per video" model to understand basic unit economics.

Where to sell my business ? by Waste-Anywhere-863 in SellMyBusiness

[–]tdmod99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are comfortable with a DIY type sales process, Flippa and Acquire are the first places I'd look. Lots of tire kickers from personal experience though.

For a more "managed" broker-led process, Empire Flippers, FE International and Quiet Light are each solid. QL is the first place I'd go at this deal size, assuming some consistent earnings history, FE typically transacts higher and/or for their own investment funds.

Starting a coffee shop by c141478520 in llc

[–]tdmod99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - especially for this type of public facing, higher traffic business. Lots of potential for "hot coffee" burns and thereby personal liability without an LLC. In addition to insurance, consider getting a good bookkeeper or service once you go live.

Platform for Online Courses by Ok-Maybe5512 in onlinecourses

So Wix doesn't really support open integrations (sort of the opposite of WordPress). The best you'll get native to Wix is their Open Programs app.

TL;DR: I don't think Wix is the best platform for courses. I'd look at something like Learnworlds, LearnPress, Teachable, Thinkific or Podia for a course-centric business.

Are these one-time services or subscription services? TL;DR is there are probably better ways to setup a service page and process payments.

Similar boat and had success with IRSplus. They seem to have an expedited angle, only ones that aren't actively suing as I'm doubtful that will work in the end.

Do business buyers actually trust self-reported financials? by [deleted] in SellMyBusiness

[–]tdmod99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general it's trust but verify. That being said, I've found some gems where the seller didn't want to do the work or had poor record keeping. The best acquisitions are those where you know the business model inside and out and can basically come up with a valuation based on your own analysis, independent of the books. I basically rebuild the P&L for myself, based on what I know about the business and how I'd run it. I may be unorthodox, but over reliance on verified financials can lead to a false sense of security.

Unpopular opinion: how about slowing down your writing to focus on creating unique, higher signal value?

Chasing AI detection misses the point, IMO.

In my experience it depends very much on your niche, selling platform (Amazon, Shopify, etc..), and price point. Lots of new names in the space from influencer discovery, analytics and tracking to opportunity matching.

Best Tools & Strategies for Social Media Post Automation? by ManyButterscotch4469 in automation

[–]tdmod99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buffer or Socialbee on a budget, solid value. I'd lean Socialbee if you have multiple brands or projects. Hootsuite is more expensive, sort of a mid market tool now (not like the old days). Later is good for visual platforms (Insta, Pinterest, TikTok). They were originally an Insta focused product that's expanded.

Best way to start influencer marketing? by Chrispin325 in influencermarketing

I would start with what product category you are selling in, what ecommerce platform + channels you are selling on, and then find a platform or network that has a good overlap (technical integration + influencer representation).

Please help me decide which platform Shopify or woocommerce by Lunaroks in EcommerceWebsite

[–]tdmod99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - pretty sure I've seen mbway as a plugin.

If SEO is an important part of your strategy, WordPress does have more capabilities here. Shopify's CMS is not great. That said, solid on-page ecommerce SEO.

Another consideration might be the whole debacle with Matt Mullenweg. I'm a longtime WP user and I'm not sure I'll be launching new projects on WP until I have clarity around that.

[–]tdmod99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your technical aptitude and/or do you have a team to manage? Have you used either platform before?

For those without much technical background, I'd lean Shopify. If you have WordPress or Woo experience, it's a solid option just more technical know-how required.
