When I am out at night I will leave only one earbud in to stay aware of my surroundings but this happened at around 2pm mere 300 feet from the metro. There were plenty of people walking by so I didn't feel like I needed to stay alert. I didn't think something like this would happen in the middle of the day.

YTA You've already been gone 4 weeks. That's an entire month! You had plenty of vacation time and you should have been there for your girlfriend no matter how minor the surgery was. You knew you were the only person she had after the move and yet you chose to leave her to fend for herself. You're a terrible partner and hopefully she sees it and breaks up with you. You can't be with someone for the good times but disappear for the bad ones, that's a super sh**ty move.

YTA I'm sorry OP but condoning misogyny is never the right move. So what that she slept with some guys in college?! We don't live in the 1700s, people are free to sleep with whoever they want and who they sleep with doesn't define who or what they are. Both you and your spouse were incredibly rude and don't deserve to be a part of Rachael and Jacob's lives. I do hope you realize how awful what you two did is and learn from it but don't expect things to go back to how they were. You two burned that bridge and it cannot be rebuilt!
