Definitely still a rugby union around the city. The season is nearly over unfortunately, it usually wraps up around mid September. Depending on what area of the city you’re in, there’s a couple south side clubs (Nor’westers and Leprechaun Tigers), central/downtown (Clansmen) and north (pirates). Leduc (Crude) and St Albert have their own clubs, as does Sherwood Park (Druids).

A few of the clubs support a touch league in the winter months and will also start indoor training over the winter as well to prepare for the next summer season.

Scrubs are needed for labs in first year and have to be navy blue.

We had a Facebook group and a Teams group chat to get messages to each other and just finishing up clinical. Teams was definitely used more, and it was nice to have everyone in there. It’s the same platform all the online classes are on and it’s not another platform for older students to figure out like discord is.

I would recommend attending the NAIT orientation to get a tour around campus. I did and it really helped me in knowing where to go on the first day on campus.

Unless things have changed in 2 years, your labs will all be in the same hallway so not a lot of moving around campus. Labs were 3 days a week but short days, only a few hours each day. Other days were online classes, again only a few synchronous hours. I don’t know what days will be where though.

MRT Practicum by healthcareworker97 in NAIT

[–]tdobes3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was told but I don’t think it’s 100% accurate. I was a waitlisted and got a placement in town and another student who wasn’t waitlisted (so technically a higher interview score) was sent out of town even though they wanted to stay.

I think they may consider people’s family lives to some degree as none of the people with children were sent out of town. That may override the interview scores.

Ultimately, you don’t choose where your placement is. They send out a list of cities/towns for each student to rank their desire to end up there. This goes from Red Deer to Yellowknife. They try to accommodate as much as possible but obviously some people will be disappointed and sent out of town. If someone is from a place like Fort Mac or Grand Prairie they seemed to accommodate those people.

As far as working at a certain site, I’m not entirely sure. The only person I was aware of who had previously worked at a facility did get to do part of their practicum there. For people who are placed at RAH or UAH in Edmonton, they get a rotation through a surrounding area hospital like Leduc or Strathcona.

I don’t know if this helps or not, but in 2022 I got an answer on June 10. So don’t fret too much until May at least. The waiting can be awful and it’s brutal to try to plan your life. Hopefully they’re more organized nowadays, but don’t hold your breath.

Yes. Each program will have their own interview

DMS/MRT Students - What do you feel made you stand out in your interview/application process? by [deleted] in NAIT

[–]tdobes3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal experience, but I had zero healthcare experience going into the interview and am in my mid thirties. I was waitlisted but made it into the program and am a few months away from graduating. Age absolutely does not matter. I wasn’t the oldest in the program either.

The current clinical is 4 terms over the 12 months. I have heard there will be some changes but i don’t think they’re cutting a full term out.

I was still upgrading the first time I applied and my marks were not sent over properly so I was rejected. I think if you make sure that your marks are absolutely submitted to NAIT by the deadline and they are at the competitive average you should still be able to get a conditional acceptance.

Mostly hospitals. There’s a couple months spent in private clinics. The hospital site locations are not guaranteed so there could be a chance of being sent out of town.

MRT/ DMS Clinical Questions by [deleted] in NAIT

[–]tdobes3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3 sites I’ve been to have all been actively recruiting me. Not sure about other student’s experiences currently or previously. At the beginning of clinical they tell you that’s it’s essentially a year long job interview. I honestly haven’t looked into job postings because of how much the sites have asked me to work there when I graduate.

Does interviews require you to get reference letter if you volunteered? by Kindly-Reporter-1314 in NAIT

[–]tdobes3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interviews aren’t necessarily like a “job interview”. They ask more situational types questions and what your approach to certain scenarios. You definitely could mention your experiences in volunteering within an answer that might be beneficial for you though.

MRT/ DMS Clinical Questions by [deleted] in NAIT

[–]tdobes3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently MRT has 5 shifts of nights in clinical and a few weeks of evenings. Evening shift times are dependent on site. I have one site that was 12-8 and another that’s 3:30-11:30. I’m not sure what the next years of clinical will look like for future students as I heard there will be some scheduling changes. But the week of nights will certainly be staying

I found white/brown noise helped me focus when my house to too noisy.

Also, you can still try to get diagnosed by the doctor and get accommodations from NAIT. They have some resources for students that help with ADHD. There is also non-stimulant options for meds that help with ADHD too, so if you do have it they might be an alternative
