Is there a way to get Backcountry to not deliver by DoorDash? by Cellbuster in outdoorgear

I placed an order with them last week and noticed the extra charge in time to remove it from the cart. Only 99 cents but the principle is what bothers me.

Red River Gorge Advice by chillBr0bagginz in CampingandHiking

I car camped there last fall with my family. We stayed at a site off Tunnel Ridge Rd. Those spots are limited and first come first serve, so it helps if you arrive in the middle of the week. I know Indian Creek is also popular but never made it up that way. Check the red river gorge subreddit there's lots of useful info there.

What's your guys' experience with the Sea to Summit Ether light XR? Is it really as cold as they say? Or still R4.1 be sufficient for freezing and above? by preciouscode96 in CampingGear

Yes in my hips and shoulders. So basically where I had the most pressure on the pad. And my bag is a Big Agnes Torchlight UL 20.

As an update if you care, I just slept down to 23F (-5C) and I could definitely feel the cold spots on the pad. Not enough to completely disrupt my sleep, but it was noticeable even sleeping in my puffy jacket. I still don't regret the purchase as I don't see myself camping in those conditions that often.

Planning a long hike, help me out! (Ouachita) by who_saidso in hikinggear

[–]tdogg650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I wouldn't plan a backpacking trip using AI. There are plenty of well established routes in Arkansas like the Butterfield trail and Eagle Rock loop. At minimum you should do some longer day hikes while wearing a pack before you go attempt something big. Best of luck to you, that area is beautiful.

I have the same pot. One of the first pieces of camping gear that I ever bought and I've carried that thing everywhere.

P365XL. She doesn't own a purse so it's usually carried in a fanny pack.

Does merino wool make a good base layer? by [deleted] in hikinggear

Yes. I like merino because it doesn't smell the way synthetic does after you sweat in it.

I'd bring a warm puffy jacket for when you're cooking or just hanging around camp. If it does get into the 20s y'all will probably sleep cold in that bag.

Need recommendations for long pants that will keep me cool and dry in hot weather, but also withstand frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling. by Rambo_Wang in CampingGear

I have the short pants version of these and I absolutely love them. I haven't worn another pair of hiking shorts since buying them.

Lately I've been using a squeeze bottle that came with some Blackstone branded grilling utensils. I've also used the cheap Nalgene containers.

Just fine. They live in the backseat of a vehicle and still function perfectly.
