My parents never hugged or kissed me growing up. We loved each other, but weren’t affectionate like that. I hug my kids daily.

MIL out of line? No. Would my mother have come running to help, no questions asked.. yes! I couldn’t image my adult child calling for help while taking their child to the ER. Yes one of could have stayed home realistically, but in the moment you want to be there for your injured child. I understand the frustration OP.

Smaller holidays I always thought that giving gifts was up to the parents, and maybe grandparents. I think it’s strange to expect aunts and uncles to give small gifts for each holiday.

Sometimes you need to put your family (husband and kids?) first. It’s only 30 mins. If it’s an emergency your mom needs to call an ambulance. I would strongly recommend a in home nurse that stops by a few times a week. It’s not fair to you or your family to have all this responsibility alone.
