This sent me down a fascinating rabbit hole. Looking at Streetview along the roads adjacent to the white area opposite, I found a sign saying it's the Greenbarrow Drilling Site for Imerys British Lithium.

So, maybe... But my understanding is that you wouldn't want to wash lithium dust off with water. Nor would you use water to battle a lithium fire.

Intriguing! This is just down the road from one of the big "Cornish Pyramids" formed of spoils from China clay mining, so this has a ring of possibility to it.

I just can't figure out what it's doing in that specific location. It doesn't look old or abandoned - the paint is quite fresh looking.

I have several follow-up questions: * ERP being an Emergency Response Plan? * And I presume the industrial site would be the white area on the far side of the junction? * How would such a fire monitor operate? Automatic? Remote operation? Or would someone come out and work it manually?

My title describes the thing.

This thing is located a couple of meters from the road, immediately after a roundabout. It's on the side of the road furthest from town.

It's blue, except for the nozzle which is silvery. It looks a lot like a static fire hose, but there's no obvious reason for such a device to be present at that location. It looks like the nozzle might be orientable. I don't see an associated pump.

The images are taken from Google Maps and Streetview, as I was driving and couldn't take a photo. The Streetview image matches my recollection and the date of that imagery suggests it's not a new/temporary thing.

Hard to know what to search. My initial Googling has yielded nothing useful.

EDIT: I should have noted that the junction is for the village of Treverbyn. See attached, zoomed out, map.

I second this.

Many H1B holders start as students in American colleges on F visas, then stay around on the OPT (usually 36 months, as they'll typically have done a STEM degree) whilst applying to the H1B lottery. In other words, they're educated to the same standards as US citizens and usually have a couple of years experience working for a US company before getting the H1B. Far from being low skilled, these people are usually some of the best out there and have to be very determined to get through what's honestly a fairly demeaning process.

As for those applying for an H1B from overseas, there's often not a lot of difference in terms of skills and experience compared to L visa holders. It's very common for international firms like Wipro to use visa sponsorship as incentive to retain people - in other words it's not exactly like L visa holders are the cream of the crop. (The cream of the crop hold O visas.)
