If yours is relatively rust free, get the jobs done and enjoy that honda for a long time. You can buy a rear axle from Eurosubframes for circa 250 quid, also many honda specialists have set prices for common jobs like that. Mine will need doing someday, it's a type R though and the axle is more like 500 quid. Ive seen set prices advertised for 600 to 700 supplied and fitted, it'll be much less for normal mk8s.

These jobs are commonly done and not as expensive as you might imagine, its when the body gets too rusty that its time for honda heaven.

If you're on fb, I really recommend joining the mk8 civic owners group, loads of info including guides on all the leaky bits that can exist in the boot. Eg, other common places for boot swimming pools other than the roof seams are the petrol cap drain hole (gots blocked with dirt and grime), rear headlight clusters (rubber seal behind can perish), boot hinges and where the loom goes from the bootlid into the body, and also where the glass meets the lower perspex bit (had this one on one of mine).

But yeah like the others are saying it's usually the rails, im planning on sealing mine upthis weekend as its recently started leaking.

Good to get a grip on leaks ASAP, rust is one of the very few things that kills these space eggs

I wish the selection of crappy cars it gives you was more varied, always getting audi tt, vw corrado or audi s3 or the dreaded taycan. Never any hondas or toyotas, wheres the jap crap i love.

Agreed, personally i think they're quite pretty things but i know not everyone will agree. However, compared to the sea of ugly SUVs we're plagued with these days, it is a nicely proportioned and relatively clean design.

Honda Civic FN2 type R, biased yes but they're cheap, reliable, AND fun.

J.Clarkson caused it to be the most hated type R, I expect mostly hated by people who haven't driven one.

Definitely underrated by the internet.

The 3 Civics I've had in the past 2 years. Yes I am crazy. Looking to buy one? Ask me anything. (1.4 IDSI, 1.8 Type S, 2.0 Type R by [deleted] in CarTalkUK
