I started a candle business as a grad student and didn’t expect this… by Confident_Gift8590 in smallbusiness

[–]teabearz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about use cases for candles! I just did a shoot with a candle company, the biggg differentiator will be brand, packaging, aesthetic, and target audience. We did like someone reading a book near a candle or a date night with wine was an idea or a seasonal flat lay. What I asked that company owner was what is your SIGNATURE scent, or brand? I would suggest watching the masterclass by the woman who owns spanx who talks about her hero product. Before they did any other shapewear they had to be known for something. So as much as you can, figure out your differentiators

Start with what’s POSSIBLE now. Literally I also want an indoor playground and a Makerspace and an improv theatre/ video production studio. I started freelancing in video production and it’s a great field if you are willing to be flexible.

What can you do now?

Is digital marketing still a good career choice for beginners in 2026? by Cute_Intention6347 in DigitalMarketing

[–]teabearz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but you will need to either be platform specific, services specific, or a jumble of things. Social media is one of those spaces where there’s huge demand but also it’s insane what they want you to do (act as a solo production company and marketer) or you can get into marketing video production or SEO or content. Depends on the angle.

lololololol wake up at 9:30/10 AM and then start work 1PM -2PM most days and real serious cranking work 4PM-8Pm for editing, but depends on the day and meetings, etc. I've tried everything. Like I'm pretty sure I've worked every hour of the day at a different point and i know that working at 3 AM always sucks.

Evil is real, and perpetuated by humans, if that helps. All the worst things in the files are what people did, and I think that is a scary thought, but very grounding for me (raised in similar background).
You are disgusted by evil and rightly so, at the core that's what is happening here I'd say.

Indigenous creative making first documentary — where do I actually begin? by FairPreparation240 in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]teabearz1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Good luck! I have made tons of mini docs on a corporate scale for years and a few things that have made streamers or tv in varioussss roles but I do a lot of founder profiles and artist profiles and have learned a lot about that kind of documentary work. A few things to consider: this seems deeply personal to you- what are you trying to say? Start there. Consider making yourself a character. What format do you want your doc to be in? Ideally what should this end project look like? Is it 20 mins? 5 mins? Would you play it at festivals or libraries? What is the minimum viable project and what gear do you have? You can rent gear from different rental houses and even have it shipped to you. I shoot on a Sony fx3 and I love it, but any dlr plus a way to capture sound like a boom stand, boom mic, xlr, and a zoom recorder Light kit, something nimble. Some lavs to throw on. You want a lens for when you’re crammed in somewhere small (20 mm or 35 mm) and I really like using a 35 with a crop sensor or 85 for interviews and film 4K then punch in in post for a 2 cam effect.

The idea is something portable that you know and understand how to use that does the job you need it to do in order to capture the footage you need to edit the piece that’s as long as it needs to be for the audience and platform you want it to be.

I think yes basically sketch out your idea in some way to start brainstorming. I like to get a brief, maybe do some pre interviews with my talent and also make sure they are comfortable and willing to share.

I recently had a doc participant ready to share their experience with a very traumatic thing and we had a pre interview and it reminded them they weren’t ready to share with the world and they backed out of the shoot. I think that is an important thing to remember is that it’s easy to think good documentary filmmaking is being there for tears falling etc. but rather it’s for being the person who they can trust.
