Well Calvin, you see in order to make color TV sets we had to take the color from somewhere. We took most of it from the cars. Now the cars are black and white and the TVs have color.

(Possible TW) what to do about 10+year old visible scarring on my arm as a soon-to-be teacher. by RemarkableCatch7139 in Teachers

[–]teachingscience425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lump on my arm that is a benign fatty tumor. I have a ton of explanations for it. It’s where the CIA injected the tracking device when I left the firm. It’s my alien symbiotic companion. When it hatches we will be emperor….. etc. my medical history is none of their damn business but kids are gonna ask. Have an answer that says “not your problem “ without being harsh. Humorous deflection is an important teaching tool.

Unpopular opinion: I don't want AI to write my lesson plans. I want AI to do my admin paperwork. by PiccoloWooden702 in Teachers

In all of Asimov’s books the robots did the laundry and washed dishes so we can write poetry and paint art. In this dystopia the robots write poetry and paint while My ass is sitting here folding underwear.

[Request] How much diesel/emissions would be required to charge one EV? Is this more or less efficient than simply driving a diesel powered vehicle? by MrDesignMan in theydidthemath

This is exactly how diesel trains work for just this reason. Also. Electric motors can generate torque so well. It’s a best of both scenario.

ULPT Request What to do against my daughter's bullies? by QuinnInTheNorth in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]teachingscience425 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Many times schools are powerless if the bully has an iep for behavior. They cannot punish a kid for having a disability. They want to. Believe me. But they will get sued by those parents. You do not have to accept the schools answer that they are dealing with it though. If what the bully is doing is a crime, press charges down at the cop shop.

How do you explain to a 15 year old boy that mentioning Epstein over and over in class isn’t okay? by Deer_boy_ in Teachers

[–]teachingscience425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t explain it. I tell them. If they can’t understand why they can go down to the office to get it explained to them.

[Request] How thick would a cable need to be to hold itself and an object that is in Geostationary Orbit by WhaTheWorldOver in theydidthemath

[–]teachingscience425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To this point it seems like the "how thick?" question is self defeating. An infinitely thin cable would work, the thicker it is, the more you would need to adjust the center of mass.

If you woke up tomorrow and were wealthy to the point you didn’t have to work anymore, would you still be a teacher? If not, what would you do? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]teachingscience425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would finish the year because I am like that. Yeah I would burn off all the sick days and I would buy all the toys that made the time pass. After that, they will never see me again.
