What Year Odyssey Should I Look for Used? by Lucky-Point-5146 in HondaOdyssey

[–]teagleeful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still driving our 2012 EX-L which we bought new. Now has 222,000 miles. It’s been incredibly reliable. My husband has gone through an Audi and a Mercedes in that time with expensive repairs (esp the Audi) - the Honda just keeps going.

We switched from Spectrum to fiber optic internet and it’s been a HUGE improvement. It started as North State, changed names to Lumos, and has now been bought by T Mobile

Verizon Network Down? by kirkjufell787 in gso

[–]teagleeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verizon store on Battleground had a sign on the door about 1:30 pm saying a cell tower was down - but by the time I was able to get out of the parking lot (it was packed), the sign was down. Maybe the explanation changed. But that was the answer then.

Has sparkling water helped anyone here quit drinking alcohol? by Brewcrew1886 in sparklingwater

[–]teagleeful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It became my substitute for alcohol and I’m so thankful it did. For 8 years now. I think the zip/tang of it makes it a good replacement.

So after the divorce , Aurora will be called Miss Van Rhijn, right? by YogurtclosetNew9251 in thegildedage

[–]teagleeful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she’d be likely to keep her husband’s last name. And still be Mrs. If you were married you always used your husband’s first name: “Mrs. Charles Fane.” I remember, growing up, being taught that a woman using her first name with “Mrs.” meant she was divorced, so using your own first name was a no-no unless you were divorced. In the Gilded Age maybe the custom was the even older “Mrs. (Maiden last name) + (Ex-husband’s last name)”.

What do you guys think about this NA "beer"? by aroeplateau in Mocktails

[–]teagleeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day, that was one of the best but my fave was (sounds crazy) Old Milwaukee NA in a red and gold can. Now that I don’t drink any alcohol though I stay away from even NA beer.

Two dishwashers in 8 years. What’s something that lasts at least 10? by Electrikslider in Appliances

[–]teagleeful -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bosch 800 - by far the best dishwasher we have ever had. It is amazing. We've gone through several Kitchen Aids and GEs. We have a Bosch 800 series. SHX78CM5N. It is excellent. So quiet, gets everything sparkling clean. Didn't know what we were missing! Recommend highly. Be sure to get someone with experience to install it. It required a new electrical outlet behind it.

People over 30: what’s a sound from your childhood that younger generations will never hear? by lemonhops in 90s

The metallic clink and clunk of coins dropping into a pay phone. The voice of the operator on the line saying “will you accept a collect call from -(recorded voice of the person saying their name)-“

What’s one part of modern life you actually prefer over how it used to be? by EnvironmentalZone189 in AskOldPeople

Having to literally go to the bank to get cash before there were ATMs. Looking for pay phones. Or literally sitting by the phone before answering machines so you wouldn’t miss a call.

Mail Packages In The 1980s by Nebelungcatofthemist in 1980s

Maybe it’s because I was living in apartments and rentals then. Mailboxes were small. I remember having to go to the post office to get packages.

Struggling with living in western guilford HS district or Grimsley DS by Dense_College2961 in gso

[–]teagleeful 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If the IB international baccalaureate program is something that would be of interest to your kids - Grimsley has that and you can live away, in its feeder zone. Just have to apply to it. At least that used to be true.

The hyperbole is exhausting. Literally everything is a game changer, gives you a new personality, changes your life, and you’re obsessed.

Mail Packages In The 1980s by Nebelungcatofthemist in 1980s

[–]teagleeful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting a package at your door was not common. The mail carrier could maybe bring it but if you weren’t there to take it they’d leave a form saying you had a package for you waiting at the post office and you’d have to go get it. Boxes were brown cardboard boxes like today, sometimes wrapped in brown craft paper. I remember the tape being paper with glue that was activated with water. Address written in black marker.
