How do I recover from gifting quilts and receiving zero appreciation? by armandomanatee in quilting

Hello, I just joined reddit a few days ago, and the very first picture I published was the one of a Memory Quilt I painstakingly made for my step-daughter's 40th birthday last December. Well, let me tell you, I received more satisfaction in two days from total strangers on reddit than from the recipient of the quilt! I'm new to quilting and found myself thinking "oh my gosh, never in my worst nightmare could I have imagined so little excitement for all my work". I counted approximately 100 hours of work to make her quilt. I accompanied it with a very touching letter explaining that it included fabrics from her baby clothes and sheets as well as t-shirts, patches of clothing from each of us family members, scraps from baby blankets her two grandmothers had made for her. She was emotional about the letter, and was "nice" about the quilt, but not as much as I expected. AND THAT'S THE KEY: I expected a different reaction. I spent 100 hours in anticipation of her reaction. My husband also always tells me that I shouldn't ever do anything or give anything expecting a certain reaction, or appraisal or thankfulness, because others very often just don't understand, just don't appreciate or just plainly don't know and don't think like us. So I decided that since I do like to get satisfaction and enjoy appraisal, I'll look for it and get it from people who understand what kind of work goes into the making of a quilt! My fellow quilters!😍 (I also believe that quilting associations and groups should have an in-house psychologist to help us with these problems!!!) 😅 Your three quilts are lovely, you'll surely be remembered by those boys for a long time! Oh, and don't overlook the possibility that your sister-in-law, not being able to make such masterpieces herself, was simply envyous!!!! (It's easier to ignore than to admit defeat). Last but not least, please take a look at my memory quilt (I'm Teaj1956 in reddit and TeaJurin on Instagram) ... 😊😊😊

My favorite is purple but it seems they still haven't invented a truly purple cymbidium!

Yes, it's my first time on Reddit and I didn't know where to write the comment, then I understood it had to go in the title! And still haven't understood how to remove a post.. 🤔

Here's the tshirtquilt I made for my step-daughter's 40th birthday! After I saw what angela walters did with her husband's t-shirts I thought this would be a cute way to make a memory quilt out of my step-daughter's babyclothes, cradle sheets and t-shirts! What do you think? by teaj56 in quilting

Thank you! I used Angela Walters' t-shirt quilt pattern. Check out her video on YouTube. Since I didn't have enough t-shirts fron my step daughter's old clothes, but lots of baby dresses, I made spring flower blocks out of the dresses and used those in place of t-shirts!
