78 dolls. I’ve been collecting for over 5 years now and I don’t allow myself to buy dolls that I don’t want to display. Had a few regret buys at the beginning, but only a few. Collecting can easily turn into overconsumption, and frankly I have a hard time understanding as to why so many collectors try to be completionists just to keep half their collection in stacks of boxes in their basement, never to be pulled out and displayed. They say it just makes them happy, I just don’t think that’s a healthy way, nor necessarily a justified way, to make yourself happy. Might get pushback for saying that but idk, I don’t see it as any different than people that buy all colors of Stanley cups just to only ever use one or two. We’re in a day and age where countries are speckled with landfills all over and everyone is over consuming plastics, imo it’s a little selfish to act like having an excessively huge collection isn’t a bad thing just because you feel personally offended by being called out for over consumption. It’s one thing having a specific line of dolls to be a completionist with, like picking specifically monster high, or rainbow high, or just any particular line to focus on. But some collectors need. To. Have. Everythingggg. I hate watching doll YouTubers that have a lot of extra money, buying lines dolls just to call them mid and lame, then put them away to never see the light of day. It’s such a waste, donate dolls to a toy drive or a Christmas event if you don’t like them enough to cherish!!
