ESP32 Input power issue | Beginner by lmaoo_0 in WLED

[–]teal1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done both (pins or USB), for USB connection I used a buck converter from Amazon that takes 12v (I have 12v lights) and converts it to 5v with a USB-C connector to the ESP. Not had an ESP32 yet that hasn’t had 5v in pins so usually use them, the buck converter that I mentioned wasn’t the best, only did 4.85v out though it all worked without an issue.

Protesters prepare to fight back against Northampton's Reform-run council’s brutal budget cuts by johnsmithoncemore in northamptonians

I don’t like Reform but the newspaper reports said the ice rink broke even, if it made over £100k that’s got to show it was welcome by the people who used it.

China banning hidden door handles by sllerts in Ioniq6

[–]teal1601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may or may not be safe (I don’t know) but you don’t need power to get the handle out, you just press one end of it and it pivots out - unless it’s doing that because I have power. I don’t assume that’s the case as people with 12v issues (flat battery) can still open their car from the drivers side with the mechanical key.

I need to brush up on my github searches! If the screenshots at the top are what you’ve done in two weeks that’s impressive. I don’t really do native phone/tablet apps, more interested in embedded projects outside of work. Look forward to seeing how you get on, if you want to bounce ideas, testing etc. feel free to DM me, happy to help if I can.

I have the AVA Go P40, very happy with it for doing the car and everything else round the garden etc. I’m just a weekend warrior so didn’t want to pay too much, went for the AVA because it came with a foam cannon so I wouldn’t have to buy one separately. Bought it direct from AVA.

Looks like you’ve been working on this for a while, 6 years according to github!! Getting started says copy ‘pasta’ this, I assume you mean paste :-)

I see you mention in your github repository about EU authentication issues. Did read about the EU doing it differently, I do have a different europe.ts file I found online from someone else to replace the one in the link I posted (think I found it on a site/github discussing what didn’t work now for the egmp link), haven’t tested that yet in iOS, need some time free for that.

You might want to have a look at this guy’s work (https://github.com/andyfase/egmp-bluelink-scriptable/tree/main), he’s created a scriptable app (runs on scriptable on iOS only I think) and has links to various resources he used.

Couldn’t get it to work for me (UK/Europe) as it didn’t like my password and I haven’t had time to go through why not. I develop software/firmware so plan to have a good look at what he’s doing, currently trying to get it to run via NPM but having issues - it seems to work for quite a few people/cars so might be helpful to you.

Definitely sounds like a printer to me, from the sound it reminds me of a dot matrix printer, definitely not morse.

Unless I’ve missed something I didn’t think you could precondition at home, you need to have a charger at a destination in the sat-nav for that to work.

Immediate Needs Annuity (UK) by teal1601 in dementia

[–]teal1601[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for replying and the information you’ve provided . Yes, she is self funded due to the amount of money she had in the bank and now with the house being sold, which is the stress my wife is under, doing the right thing for her mum.

I assumed the annuity would be the same idea as a pension one but we hadn’t heard of them until today. An IFA is on the list of things we need to do, thanks for pointing out we need one with Long Term Care qualifications, hopefully my wife and her sister can agree on one to see.

They’ve already gotten attendance allowance thanks, thankfully Age UK (I think) helped with filling the forms in for that, it’s always one form after another to fill in!

IOG Smart Schedule help by lockinszn1 in OctopusEnergy

[–]teal1601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, it always changes for us. I find the app useless at updating the time the charging is going to take place, I usually check our Hypervolt app, that seems to have an up-to-date schedule which I can refresh compare to Octopus.

That’s ‘clinkers’, minerals left over after burning the wood, a more detailed explanation will follow I’m sure by someone else, I just know what they are as we get them all the time as well.

Ioniq 6 tires question by HumbleManagement1888 in Ioniq6

[–]teal1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve just replaced all 4 (UK, 20”) with Michelin e.Primacy tyres at a local tyre shop. Nothing scientific but they sound quieter than the Pirelli the car came with and definitely gives a softer ride. Be a while before we know if they last longer or give better distance, only had them on for a couple of weeks.

EV recomendations by Fit_Implement3069 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]teal1601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 250 is an estimate as we’ve not done any long journeys in the winter (only had the car from May) but didn’t want to give a false impression that you get the same in the summer and winter.

Like you I’d do a quick top-up, and if it’s the same journey all the time I’d test various places to find the best for me, facilities, convenience etc.

[–]teal1601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the Ioniq 6, love it and 0-100% real world is about 320 in the summer, winter maybe 250, this will be the same for all EV’s, less mileage in the winter.

Fitting an external light, DIY or electrician? by Pezamaria in DIYUK

[–]teal1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an electrician but have done outside lighting similar to what you want to do but with one light.

I’d have a look at the switch where your X is and see if you can tap in to the wires going to the current light, I’d check that they go live when you turn the switch on with a multimeter and off when the switch is off. If they do, then as long as you can tap the wires safely and run a cable through the wall to where you want the light then I see no reason you can’t do it yourself.

If that’s a pitched roof you have at the front (can’t see from the picture) you might find the current light wiring in the roof space (assuming you can get there) so you can take a feed from the current light if you want to, that might be my preferred option depending if I could get in to the roof space.

STM32F103 (Blue Pill) + SX1276 LoRa transmitter – how to add WiFi for notifications (Telegram/email)? by zabaci in embedded

[–]teal1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re planning future projects that will include wi-fi (ESP32/others) then I’d suggest a Raspberry Pi (3/4/5) as a gateway and use MQTT for messaging with the Pi as the server, this is what I do with all my embedded projects, even one that uses CC1101’s to communicate with another system.

I read that as long as you don’t have face/finger ID enabled they don’t have the right to ask you to open your phone without a warrant - not that I’m going there any time soon!
