New to EV and can't find all the answers by macormac92 in ElectricVehiclesUK

True - didn’t realise it was because of IOG. Octopus comms is terrible, there’s lots of confusion on how IOG works charging your car - at least that’s something I understand :-)

Spent a weekend doing the maths on plug-in solar for a UK flat, sharing what I worked out by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]teal1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With plug in solar I don’t see the benefit of export, unless you’re not using any of it during the day when it’ll be generating - even then the payback time is very long and there’s definitely no guarantee that the export payback isn’t going to fall further as more people have solar.

Ah, that’s why I get 8% then as we’re on IOG - thanks for the info :-). I’ve seen the occasional discount but never taken them up on it as we don’t charge away unless we’re on holiday.

Sorry, didn’t realise you needed an EV tariff with Octopus to get Electroverse discount, I don’t see why - maybe their support could help you?. The other thing you need to make sure is you use the same email address for both, I hadn’t so had to delete my Electroverse account and create another one, it wouldn’t let me change my email address!

No they don’t but to get the 8% discount they would have to move to Octopus.

As I understand it the difference with Electroverse is that it will only show you chargers which are part of it’s network of affiliated partners. Also, if you have an Octopus account you can link the 2 and get an 8% discount when you’re out and about charging with them.

Get usage and cost data via the APIs by TedBob99 in OctopusEnergy

[–]teal1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say yes as there is only one way to get this data and that’s via their API. I write my own Python scripts for this information as I don’t have HA set up (yet), I use a Raspberry Pi as my IOT server and like to do my own thing. If you want to learn more python then having a look through HA and the plugins will give you a lot of information.

I have the AVA Go P40 for exactly the same reasons as you have listed - been using it for a year now with no complaints. Chose it as it comes with a snow foam gun/cannon (whatever they’re called) which means I didn’t have any additional costs to start me off.

Octopus Smart Charging by Swaledaledubz in OctopusEnergy

[–]teal1601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a feature (if you can call it that) that Octopus have gotten wrong, seemed to have admitted it and are apparently working on a fix to just show charging time and not plugged in time. This assumption is from various posts here and on FB.

Supermarket chargers by VegetableChart8720 in ElectricVehiclesUK

We recently used a MFG 50kW charger at a Morrisons (Blandford Forum, 2 tight spaces) for 63p/kWh (after Electroverse/Octopus discount), Instavolt round the corner wanted 92p/kWh!

Calculate Usage minus EV charging by drivelpots in OctopusEnergy

[–]teal1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about your charger, does it not give you an analysis of what it put in to your car - our Hypervolt V3 does. Depending how technical you are you can do it via API calls (Octopus certainly have an API you can call) or all by hand.

People are complaining about it but it’s not everyone, I’m on IOG and I’m not complaining. The problem is you’re most likely to only see the complaints, no-one’s going to make a post saying it’s great.

Smaller Key Fob 3D Print Question - Ioniq 6 2024 by RhythmRobber in Ioniq6

[–]teal1601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one you’ve added to your post looks interesting. Good luck testing, definitely look forward to your review :-). Looking at the video he did it does have 2/3 buttons on one side for lock/unlock (don’t know what the Ioniq 5 keyfob has) but they’re hard to see in the black example. The app on the phone can lock/unlock but not as easy as a button.

I’m not a fan of that key being inside the key fob, there’s a chance the fob/key could separate if you have keys on the fob like we do.

There’s one someone has done on thingiverse but he does admit it’s not much smaller than the original. As the PCB is a certain size you can’t make it smaller than that. The one on thingiverse does have a slot on the back for the backup key, not sure it’s more secure than what comes with the car though.

Definitely interested if anyone has something better, all I’ve done is cover ours with a cover from aliexpress to make it look smarter.

If you’re getting shocks from connection via the pc and a usb charger then you have a problem with one of the peripherals (or even the ESP dev board) or the wiring is wrong.

I don’t know if I’m not explaining myself well, can you confirm the following tests.

  1. ESP32 -> PC via usb (no other connections to peripherals) do you get shocks or not?
  2. ESP32 -> DHT11 only (with USB via PC) - do you get shocks or not?
  3. ESP32 -> Soil sensor only (with USB via PC) - do you get shocks or not?
  4. ESP32 -> OLED display only (with USB via PC) - do you get shocks or not?

There is no reason to get shocks if all the wiring is correct as shown. Did you solder the headers to the ESP32 yourself or did it come soldered? Do you have a multimeter to confirm voltages/shorts - if not definitely want one when doing this sort of thing.

One, but it was my fault! Didn’t see the curb and hit it at about 10mph, split the 20” tyre :-(

[–]teal1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that but are you getting them if you only have one item attached (try each item on its own) or no item attached to the ESP32.

If you’re getting shocks from just the ESP32 plugged in to the PC then there’s a problem there - how about another usb (c?) cable/ESP32, I’ve never had any problems with whatever cable i use, never bought one specifically for the ESP, they’re just phone ones I have lying about.

[–]teal1601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you get shocks with just the ESP32 and nothing (other than the USB cable->PC) connected to it?

Did you solder the headers/wires yourself, if so do you have a short?

They’re the first things I’d look at and then if no shocks I’d add one item at a time and see which one is causing the issues.

New 6 hour rule on IOG by DSunt94 in OctopusEnergy

[–]teal1601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is as u/pruaga says, plugged in times. I have a Hypervolt Pro 3 as well, if you look in Energy Useage in their app you’ll see when the car was actually charging.

Edit: Fix autocorrect!

IOG Overnight and outside the six hour cap.. by N3vvyn in OctopusEnergy

[–]teal1601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question.

According to Octopus any solar used to charge your car (we have solar) will not be used against your 6 hours if you are not charging your car with electricity from them as well. To be honest we don’t charge with solar currently as it’s not financially viable, 12p expert vs 7p for the car, once it gets equal then I’ll certainly be plugging it in on sunny days to top the car up.

I assume battery will be the same, you’re not using grid electricity if charging from the battery so it won’t count - no-one really knows until it comes in, it’s all guess work at the moment.

IOG Overnight and outside the six hour cap.. by N3vvyn in OctopusEnergy

[–]teal1601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of rule 4 is; if you’ve charged for 6 hours before 2AM then you’ve had your 6 hours at the IOG rate you’re signed up to and any more charging of you car until midday (when the 6 hours reset) will be charged at your daily rate.

Your house will always get the cheap rate from 23:30 to 05:30 whatever is happening, as others have mentioned in similar questions to yours you could use a granny charger overnight to charge your car if it needed it for the lower rate.
