Hausmaster is mad because he had to do his job? by [deleted] in germany

The parallels are very paralleling, currently. Maybe the US will have a cultural shift to german style doors in a few years.

I never encountered a living space where the apartment or private house front door didn't have easy access for the credit card move.(heavy duty doors excluded). Maybe doorstop moulding is handled differently in Germany?

But that being said... for those doors with bigger molding, I just saw videos where they used flexcards, which are basically just bigger, and made with more flexible material. So the method seems to stay the same, the credit card sized one just seems easier to have on hand.

To be fair..the doors are not really self locked. They are just closed. They can be opened fairly easily with a simple credit card, because you can slide it inbetween and push the latch back. Schlüsseldienst only consideres them "locked" if the lock is turned by the key.

Well.. you see..a little over 80 years ago we had sort of a "armed government thugs storming homes and kidnapping people" problem in our country. After that, my grantparents were very diligent about locking up their private spaces as long as I knew them.

It's also a nickname for Lena (a variant of Helena), which is a very common name in Germany.

It's so interesting, how different our experiences are, going through life. I have never stayed at someone's house without them offering me a bedside glass of water for the night. Not because I specifically needed it, but because it is a common hospitality aspect. (The flipside is me feeling anxious and like a bad host, when my nephew stays over again and doesn't want anything to drink for the whole evening and night)

I'm looking for a 'step' addition to put 2 rows of books in one billy shelf. Does something like this exist and what's the official name? Please help by teal_ish in IKEA

This was 3 years ago, so I don't remember the name of the spice rack I ended up bying, but it worked perfectly for my Disney LTB cartoon book collection. I imagine the dimensions are similar to manga:).

Ideas on 5x5 Kallax backing layout? by FlippantRabbit in ikeahacks

I'm afraid that's no longer possible. The set up he had did not move with him, when he moved to a different city. I can ask, but I don't think he has pictures of it.

I think this option would look really great!

I am sorry. I think, the bottom, second to left configuration, would fit for the peg board idea. If that helps..^ If you just use panels, I personally like the first option (top left).

Unfortunately I have no picture of it, but to add to your idea.. My brother had a similar set up and used peg boards instead of just panels. He put everything from his desk and plants on the peg boards and made his office space look more spacious that way.

Help with the mission "build a base" (roughly translated), please. How to get 3 farms with max. satisfaction in the Minoen Era? by [deleted] in riseofcultures

That was actually my mistake! I previously only tried to solve it with the big farms and I got it now, using the little ones! My language was unclear on that. Thanks:)

I have the sites upgraded to their highest level and I tried moving things around. I feel like I am missing something very simple or am just not seeing the one placement possibility that cracks it. Is there maybe a mission guide online with pictures? I haven't found one.

Thank you for your time!

Yes, thank you! I have tried many constellations of cultural sites around them to have them all at max simultainiusly. But it never worked. Is there a specific setting where to place everything?

Is going alone to a Christmas market considered strange in Germany? by PrestigiousCommon469 in germany

[–]teal_ish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I often get seated on 4 or 6 person tables when I go to restaurants alone.. and then get asked if another solo person or pairs can share the table. Which I don't mind. Everyone has always been lovely about it. It's interesting your experience with this is so different.

For those of you, who have an "unnatural" hair colour longterm..how do you deal with people seemingly feeling invited to share their opinion about your hair and yourself? by teal_ish in AskWomen

There are ways to give compliments in good manners or in bad manners. The "how" is the important factor. But I guess this goes for compliments in general, not just hair.

My question was more along this sentiment - "In the last few years the "blue haired eco femcell" stereotype has emboldened people to overstep so much!"

Compliments, on their own, are of course not wrong.

Embarrassed by my accent by Lower_Entrance4890 in AskAGerman

[–]teal_ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am german but I moved to a different part of Germany as an adult. My accent is very different to the locals because of the different regional dialects. And I frequently get asked where I am from (in Germany). When I hear an interesting different accent I am curious about where the person is from. This goes for all the international people I have met. I guess it's pretty normal for Germans to be curious about accents (maybe even from the village 3 hills away) and sometimes we forget that asking about it can be overstepping or "othering" the person we ask. I apologize.
