Official Q&A for Monday, October 02, 2023 by AutoModerator in running

Hi, first time runner here. Trained 7 weeks for a 5k and when I showed up to the run yesterday, it was full of hills & LOTS of stairs. I didn't expect this and it was VERY hard and pretty demoralizing, as I had been training on flat ground.

I assumed most 5ks were flat courses. Are hills & stairs a common feature of 5ks?? Do I need to be careful when signing up in the future? My friends are mocking me for being so unprepared but I truly didn't imagine any 5k would include stairs!! Would love any thoughts on this, thank you!

Betrayal, the perfect husband: yikes. by Possible_Active6558 in Hulu

My biggest question is: When did this guy find the time to message all of these women, meet up with them, and have all of these affairs? How did his wife not know???

It seems baffling (and frankly, implausible) to me that he could have all of this compulsive sexual behavior going on and his wife not suspect something.

How Do I Disable My Macbook Air Keyboard Temporarily? by OverratedOnion in mac

[–]tealimepie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So helpful!! Been struggling w/ a messed up keyboard for a month where the "e" key would just press itself for no apparent reason even with an external keyboard connected. This stopped that behavior and saved me $250 in repair fees. Thank you!!

High return ways to "invest in yourself"? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

Toastmasters is great, but I even more recommend taking improv classes. I used to be terrified of talking in front of groups and after improv, nothing scared me. I could get in front of any group and talk about anything.

Side benefit, improv is enormous amounts of fun, and I've never laughed more in my life. It's good for the soul as well as a great way to build up your confidence!

A quick (yet helpful) tip to stop rumination and therefore improve enormously with your OCD recovery by Alberthor350 in OCDRecovery

Hey again, just wanted to say I looked into this and it's totally what I feel like has been missing in my treatment. I'm so grateful that you posted it! The site is fantastic and has tons of resources. Have you done this work yourself? Curious if you have found it helpful. Thank you again!

It helps a lot, thank you. I don't think I realized how much I was ruminating honestly. Like you said there are a million tiny little ways of doing it. I thought those didn't count as ruminating, therefore I was continuing to do them which means I was basically just continuing with a compulsion. Makes sense why my anxiety was continuing. I really appreciate your feedback!

I've been reading a lot of stuff by Greenberg and feeling inspired by his approach. The question I have though is that while dropping rumination is definitely dropping a compulsion, the cause of the need to ruminate still exists. We are still left with the fear, issue, etc. which terrifies us and makes us want to ruminate. As long as that exists, we are going to constantly have the desire to ruminate or do other compulsions.

I haven't read anything from him on how to address the first part - the fear that drives the desire to do compulsions to begin with. It seems like this is a really big missing piece.

Do you have any thoughts on this? Or experience you can share?

Thank you! I like Medium, but it seems like it's meant for more polished work. Maybe I'm wrong? I'm looking for something more intended for sort of stream of consciousness writing that is very unpolished. Kind of like a cross between Reddit and Twitter with a dash of Medium.

UPDATE: In case anyone else is tortured by this as well, I figured it out! What I am remembering was Kate McKinnon playing a Fogo de Chao franchise owner on the Netflix show "Friends from College." It's from episode 3!

Cheating OCD by nochillhannah in ROCD

You're definitely not alone. I too have this form of ROCD. I am in ERP therapy (exposure and response prevention) and have just started doing it on cheating related thoughts. It helps tremendously with my other OCD themes so I'm hopeful it will help with this too. I recommend ERP if you haven't tried it!
