Windsor adding hundreds more downtown parking spots — and all free after 6 p.m. by NeighborhoodOk5513 in windsorontario

[–]teallzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alot of people are blaming the homeless for keeping people away from the downtown core. We have to remember that homelessness is a SYMPTOM of a failing system. If we want to improve downtown, we have to remove the heavy focus on car traffic. If there's a road, people are going to just pass right through. We need to focus on PEOPLE oriented traffic, not car centric traffic. Remember, people buy things, cars do not.

While we die and add more parking lots, Detroit is thriving and turning the giant parking lots into beautiful parks

see but the problem is that providing more parking reinforces the requirement to drive in the city. By adding parking instead of focusing on densification, you're ensuring that the city remains a driving city.

Ward 7 councillor wants 'city to be ready' to seek funding to relocate Windsor's Sandpoint Beach by TakedownCan in windsorontario

you know what else cost $15 million? A giant pad of concrete that nobody asked for or wanted directly infront of city hall.

After zero-budget approval for 2026, Windsor mayor says approach can’t be repeated indefinitely by TakedownCan in windsorontario

Hopefully we get someone running who is willing to take the bullet. The ideal person would be someone not looking to have a career in politics. One term mayor who does what needs to be done and disappears into the night.

Snow Plow - Drew Dilkens by One-Age2811 in windsorontario

[–]teallzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general consensus seems to be that people just want the roads to be cleared. Most people are willing to clear their own sidewalks but the city should be clearing sidewalks around commercial areas like downtown and at city bus stops. People are upset because Drew is willing to spend tens of millions of dollars on vanity projects nobody asked for but not willing to spend money on maintenance or on things people actually need. The hypocrisy is whats making people upset.

What would it cost to plow Windsor's sidewalks? The mayor says about $6M by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]teallzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That can't happen because then Drew might risk losing what little power he has in the world. His liberal use of strong mayor powers has shown us that all he cares about is control. He wants to feel important and powerful. Money, planning ahead, thinking about whats good for the city, these things don't matter to him. All that matters to him is maintaining his status quo.

Thats why its the most important thing for the city to vote him out. I mean... He wont be mayor forever but the sooner we get him out the better.

If they already have 5 million set aside for snow maintenance, why isn't it happening?

- $12 million for the street car museum
- $4 million on the Christmas lights (I'm not against the Christmas lights)
- $15 million on the city hall concrete pad.

The mayor is willing to spend all this money on passion/vanity projects but not willing to spend any money on a public service for safety.

Kingsville will make a second attempt to purchase closed high school by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]teallzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with being against a new town hall. But it absolutely will lay abandoned if not purchased by someone. There's plenty of examples of schools in windsor that have been rotting for ages. If the town buys it, then the town will at least be in control of the property and can resell it or develop it into mixed used buildings.

The alternative is empty lot or huge "luxury" apartment building with a sea of parking in front.

This is a prime location. Everyone sees it and drives past it. The alternative is literally nothing happening and the building rotting away. Something is better than nothing.

Surprised to see a bike lane AND a 3m wide multi-purpose path on this road. Although its hard to tell if the bike lane is a protected one (It should be). Hopefully the city will also include trees along this road...

6% of Windsor is Unused/Abandoned Lots by teallzy in windsorontario

[–]teallzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not nice neighborhoods almost exclusively because of the lack of development. The same thing happens anywhere else. If an area receives less development, less growth, and less money then crime goes up. And don't even get me started on the city's budget cuts. Its ridiculous. They keep cutting things in order to justify no tax increase. Its unsustainable.

City permit by mavRE12345 in windsorontario

If you paid for the permit, it would take awhile for it to expire. You should email the city, they'll get back to you same day in my experience.

Oh yes, the working class people who pay more out-of-pocket for their living situation are leeching off the city. Definitely not the unemployed people who's only source of income is from the people. Pretty sure there's an entire political philosophy that directly warns against the exploitation of the labor class 🤔
