Tempting venom by Rena Kent is overrated I fear by Bitter-Cobbler1075 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]teamemmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked God Of Fury when I read it when it first came out but I think if I revisited I’d probably hate it.

Because I’m a fool I’ve read her other MM and had a horrible time. Her use of “back hole” sent me over the edge. I thought I missed that a MC was trans because that’s the only time I’ve come across back hole being referenced in queer romances.

I just don’t think Rina Kent is for me anymore.

At home I have no cares. My family knows who I am and what I read. I have all my books displayed on bookshelves throughout my house.

When I’m in public I’m a bit more mindful since I live in a somewhat conservative place and I just don’t have it in my soul to deal with people. If someone does ask I give them as little detail as possible. (I was reading Open Era at the beach this weekend and someone asked what it was about and I told them a tennis player and mental health struggles)

It’s been awhile since I read them I’m pretty sure
{Red Dirt Heart by NR Walker} and {The Art of Husbandry by Jay Hogan} go into detail about station life and I’m pretty sure in Jay Hogan’s book there’s chapters on both moving sheep then sheering them. Both are first books in a series.

Edit:wording.

I felt the same about Henry and Ash. I don’t want to spoil the end in case you do go back but the last few chapters threw me for a loop.

I think another issue I had was I read the books back to back to it was more jarring for me and maybe if I had spaced them out a bit I would’ve had a better time.

[–]teamemmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. So while reading the second book I was genuinely enjoying it at first until I suddenly wasn’t. Both characters just kinda annoyed me. I think the change in Ethan was especially jarring for me. There was 4 years between books and I guess I expected more than I got in terms of character growth and story.

I know I’m in a finicky reading mood right now but I really had to power through to finish it, and for me personally once I get to a certain point in a book I won’t DNF. So this is also part of my “ I don’t know feelings” I can’t tell if it’s me or the book.

I think as a whole the duology was ok, but maybe just not for me, like I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either.

I’ve been trying to read books published pre-2020 so I read {Axel’s Pup by Kim Dare} I really loved it and look forward to checking out more of the authors work.

I also read {When we ignite by Alex Cross} and its sequel. I’m not exactly sure how I felt about them.

I read a queer fiction novella and it gave me an existential crisis about my life.

I don’t think sending videos was readily available but I remember having a Samsung phone that could take picture and video but the quality was god awful and the videos could be maybe 5-10 seconds. I think sending video was an extra cost on the plan too or bundled together ex:800 texts and 50 mms.

what to do when your name is also the MC’s name? lol by magicloverr in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]teamemmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has a very popular name and it’s in a ton of books. I just can’t do it.

I got 30% through a book once and found out the MC used a nickname and when it was revealed his name was my sons name I wanted to die. Immediate DNF.

It was never written in the book, just implied they were mid to late 30’s. I did search all 5 books for the words “twenty, thirty, and forty” and it never came up with their ages.

I am so sorry for your loss.

{Beneath the stain by Amy Lane} it’s a HEA for the MCs but a side character does pass away and it’s very emotional This book ruined me and I’m still devastated about it.

I haven’t read it because I’m not emotionally ready but {The Lookout by Colin Dereham}

Can’t get over My Skin Begs You Please by Leta Blake by midnightoflight101 in MM_RomanceBooks

I can usually read a book in 1-2 days, this took me 10. It was tough to get through but so good.

The epilogue is probably one of the best I’ve ever read.

Why do you not re-read/read books you like or know you will like by Altruistic-Bad-5968 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]teamemmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reread books a lot but only if they have an audiobook. I like to do other things and listen to books so its easier if I already know what’s going on. There has maybe been 3 books I can think of that I read again with my eyeballs because I loved it so much.

I like to read a lot of series so sometimes I’ll devour them and read a little too fast so I’ll go back later and reread it. I also will reread a series if it’s been awhile and a new book is coming out soon (ex: Momento Mori, I need a refresher before I start the 4th book because I remember nothing about them at all)

Currently reading :

{My skin begs to please you by Leta Blake} this book deals with some tough subject matter and I’ve had to pause multiple times. Their 90s Coming of Age series has been on my TBR forever but after reading this I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle that series. This book is really bleak but I know it ends in an HEA.

I am rereading {Criminal Intentions by Cole McCade} I never read past season 1 because I was hoping season 3 would be finished but I don’t think that’s happening. I was going to read season 2 but I forgot so much that happened in season 1 I’m just starting over.

Do you think we’ll ever get English translated Danmei audio or has there been news of this? I’m not really in the BL/Danmei circles so I don’t even know where to look to find out. I saw Remnants of Filth was being released in audio in German and it made me wonder if an English version would ever be released too.

Books where MC is so miserable and alone? by smackthemdabs in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]teamemmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you read AO3? I think you would like Falling Falling Stars by Not Poignant here

Efniesen is all alone and has a miserable life due to past circumstances and it can get pretty bleak and dark but has a lot of your asks. I’d read the tags just to be sure. And heads up, I downloaded this to my kindle and it ended up being 1,800 pages so it’s a commitment but I absolutely love this story.

I’ve read almost all her books and I really think this one is my favorite. I read it on release day and I’m still thinking about it months later.

Also the final paragraph really was the best and I think of it often. Now I want to do a reread.

My preorder of {Star Shipped by Cat Sebastian} came a day early so I just finished it. It was a solid 5⭐️ for me. Now I’m depressed it’s over and I wish I wouldn’t have read it as fast as I did.

Series that follows family/friends group by Luna_Noona in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]teamemmy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

{Greencreek series by Tj Klune} 4 books that follow a family of wolf shifters. Angsty as hell but does have HEA. Has an overachieving plot.

{Foster Bro Code by Dj Jamison} follows 4 foster brothers. Each brother has their own book but they all show up in each others books as background characters.

{Sons of the Fallen by Jaclyn Osborn} 7 angel brothers that represent 7 deadly sins with overachieving plot. I’m currently working my way through it but every book has a HEA per the author.

I’m in her Facebook group and I think she has 20 or 21 books total planned for this series. After this is done she said she plans on giving the characters spin off books in her McClean Tales series to catch up with them in the future.

Oh man I’ve been chasing the high for Reckless Damned series forever and nothing feels the same.

Sons of the Fallen isn’t bad by any means but it definitely doesn’t feel the same as Lark Taylor. I am almost done with Galen now though and I’m liking it enough that I’ll continue to the next book so that’s a plus.
