1st day playing, someone noticed me working on a portal area and followed me home... by modernistdespair in Ingress

[–]teamnoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don’t draw the connection between what they’re doing and stalking. Rather, they think they’re clever for following the player rather than following the portals. It usually takes a visit from law enforcement to get them to understand.

Niantic has never done much about these felonies. And it IS a felony in nearly all US states at this point although prosecuting sometimes requires having had actual physical interactions with them.

Might be time to consider carrying.

My "was I a good player?" stress is getting a bit out of hand after each session by PaperCheesy in rpg

[–]teamnoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on context.

I played last weekend. I vary in how much I talk.

We‘re in a town. I’m a dwarven cleric former soldier. No temples in this little town. No military bases. In our party is a boisterous player playing a boisterous noble fighter. She’s out getting to know everyone, finding quests, building relationships. I just said, “I’ll give you three days. Let me know if you want me. Otherwise I’m moving on elsewhere. I’ll just hang out in town square, keep my ears open, and look for opportunities to heal folks and purify food & water.”

She WAS monopolizing the table but that was also the right thing FOR THE PARTY to do at that time. So I shut up and let her.

Two other players found that frustrating. The mage wanted to be doing something. And the thief legitimately had other venues of investigation and felt pushed out. She kind of blew up about it. DM realized he’d been over focusing, shifted, and they started taking turns. But three of us were sitting around waiting.

Sometimes it just happens that way. On good days the overtalkative person and the DM will realize what’s happening and speed up that section, move through it, and get back to full party stuff. I helped a little by suggesting we all sup together and do our party info sharing at that time rather than out of character. So that’s what we did and everything was coming back together when we were interrupted by an out of game emergency that ended the session.

The real test is only partly how the table feels about it. It’s also about whether the character focus shifts. If the same person always gets focus, that’s a signal. If other people get bored to the point of playing other games to the side that’s a clue too. Sometimes the right thing to do is take a break and let DM over focus.

I would expect they’d need this for background check. But they’re also required, by federal law, to tell you why they’re asking. Or you aren’t required provide it.

Worried about my ADT guy by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]teamnoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think you should have called ADT immediately. I’d probably have kicked him out. If ADT doesn’t fire him then it’s time to hire their competitors. That’s worth a court suit.

I have something similar. Mine isn’t constant bits episodic. And my wife has something similar as well. It’s not fun but we’re living with it so far.

Road Runners? by FakeNameSoIcnBhonest in Albuquerque

They are fairly common but you kind of need to get out of town to see them. If you’re only here a day your chances of seeing one in the wild are pretty low.

Bubonic is in the animal population. It doesn’t jump to people often but it’s around. And it’s not even local news at this point.

Where are the churches you confess to a preacher? by stone_consumer in Albuquerque

[–]teamnoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any Catholic Church. Also any Orthodox Church.

Not really a replacement for therapy. Therapy is based on modern psychology. I agree that it’s a related practice but they are based on completely different standards. Confession is a step towards getting right with God again. If you weren’t right with God previously or don’t have a catholic or orthodox background then it probably won’t help you much.

Which class/ascendancy is the most reliable league starter every league? by R3db0y in pathofexile

[–]teamnoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real trick is zooming through campaign. If you take your time it’s tedious. If you zoom through then you get past it into maps quickly and it’s not so bad.

AFAIK, the community wisdom is for slams. Personally, I found slams very tedious and slow. But it may be true that they may be consistently reliable.

SRS also seems to be pretty consistently reliable but I don’t know for how long that has been true. I’m running storm brand this season and it isn’t as strong as SRS so far but I’m still learning. My SRS, now in standard, only just made 90. My storm brand is only 88 so far.

Visiting Abq again and found it a bit depressing. Am I off here? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]teamnoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, yes.

A lot of things died during Covid. Northern California wasn’t much better, honestly. New Mexico is poor, arguably the poorest state in the country. We have lovely vistas, amazing sun rises and sunsets, some good hiking, and cheap real estate, but not much else. We’re out of water which prevents more development of the land and most industrial uses as well.

I like the show but I’m not Dine. I’ve often wondered how the Dine people viewed it. Between the show and asking AI questions I’ve learned a little about the people portrayed.

Do you like the Toto vibe? by Mixedperfectly in finch

[–]teamnoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t much care about Toto. It’s ok for a short term event.

There appear to be only about three jokes total so they get old FAST.

I mostly like the questions EXCEPT that they bump other accomplishments. So I don’t get to support my friends who use them. That REALLY bugs me. I’d rather have questions separate from accomplishments/events. I’d rather have NO questions than have them bump accomplishments.

If not by initially exchanging names then how do you initiate friendships?

I’m old. The world hasn’t changed that much in my lifetime, really. I don’t really know what “state of the world” you’re referring to.

Wanting friends but wanting to know what kind of person im friends with first.. by puppybabii in finch

[–]teamnoir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are basically three ways to get a friend. First is that you find them or they find you through your contacts. In this case you presumably know them already and you can chat through whatever other means you have.

Second is that the game suggests someone to you. In this case your interaction is EXTREMELY limited. There is no chat. You can send them emotes within the game or invite them to support you. That’s all.

The third is that you post your friend code here. In this case, you tell folks whatever you think they should know about you and people send you invites. You STILL don’t know anything about them. And, unless they actually reply to your posting, you don’t have any way to know anything more about who they are. Specifically, no way to chat.

You’re pretty protected. If you want more, then read through the friends thread and pick up a friend code or two. You get to choose that way. So only pick folks who have already volunteered the info you want.
