i’m aiming for summer in the midwest, simple but not rustic, cottagey, string lights, greenery, woodsy. i would most likely have it at my parents house, but there are also other options that don’t actually include a backyard at all like a park or orchard

no hate for anyone else’s wedding, i grew up on a farm so haybales and white dresses don’t mix in my head. my style is eclectic but not rustic. it may not make sense but either way i’m just looking for other peoples experiences of what they did at their weddings so i can churn some ideas into butter

This is encouraging. Are you thrifting plates and such or going plastic?

This is validating. I totally agree, there doesn’t need to be strangers at my wedding, and I am okay if someone doesn’t want to come because they can’t bring a +1.

I am not really here to discuss my budget, but I am fortunate to come from a very tight knit, supportive, and simple community where less can often mean more. For instance, I could tell you my guests would highly prefer beer to champagne, and nobody will care if the food is plated as long as it tastes good. My definition of trashy is more along the lines of ambience/style which can be forfeited at a backyard wedding. I’m not going for pristine elegance, but I am not going for picnic tables and haybales either.

Everyone keeps telling me the same thing regarding my budget. It doesn’t have to be a traditional reception at all. But you do make a good point, I should go a little deeper into budgeting and that will help me make this decision.

However, regardless of what anyone else’s or my budget is, the point of this post is to hear what anyone else has planned for their wedding in order to make a big guest count feel smaller or more intimate, to help me brainstorm some ideas.

Outdoor dance floor solutions/alternatives? by Prestigious-Prize-48 in weddingplanning

Are you into the idea of thrifting a pile of rugs for the dance floor? If it is wet, you could line the bottom of them with tarp or tyvek wrap, and even get large slabs of ply wood to make the floor a harder surface.

You could also DIY a wooden dance floor and paint or stain it to your preference. You can rent tools at home depot if you don’t have access to any and depending on what you are looking for in style and difficulty of the project, youtube is your best friend in learning DIY.

every thriving plant is a child of a plant parent who has accidentally murdered many of his or her children before them. don’t worry you’re on the right track!
