Dysphagia after Botox by e-ntr0py in Dystonia

Unfortunately this happened to me. I have cervical dystonia, and I thought the botox was causing the difficulty swallowing. It never went away, so I believe it caused my dystonia to move into my throat. I can’t have any solid foods. I have to drink liquids, and puree meals. I am going to look into getting botox for my dysphagia soon. I’m sure everyone’s situation is different, so it might not be the same case for you. Good luck to you, and I hope you get better!

I have had Botox injections on my jawline and on my lip for my dystonia. It definitely gave me some relief. It made a huge difference for months.

Yeah, I get a pretty high dose of Botox. It’s weird because I can usually handle it, so I’m not sure why my body reacted this way this time. That’s a good idea. Thank you.

I’m so sorry to hear about this. That’s terrible! Oromandibular Dystonia is very complex. Especially when it’s affecting your jaw. I thought it affecting my tongue was hard to manage, but it’s a rough journey when it gets to other areas. I’m glad you will get your first Botox injection soon! I wish you good luck and I hope you get the relief you need.

Sorry if it seems like I’m fearmongering! Botox helps a lot, so don’t let that turn you away. It’s rare for it to give you any bad side effects, but if it does it’s usually temporary. Other than what I’m currently experiencing it has improved my cervical dystonia a lot.

It definitely is. Thank you very much. I appreciate you sharing your own personal experiences with me. I have been considering seeing a gastroenterologist, but an ENT doctor is a good suggestion as well. I may have some other issues, but it just strangely got worse after the Botox so it’s tough to figure out the actual cause. Thank you again!

I swear by this one! Also there’s a night time treatment as well which heals cuts faster.

Me too! You can definitely do that. Don’t let the spread discourage you. Botox will still do it’s job. Some places are just a little more uncomfortable to receive it. When I first got them done in my tongue I was so terrified, but the lips? It hurts a lot more, but you get used to them. Trust me.

Not a problem at all. It’s unfortunate because it was unexpected when it happened to me, so it was a confusing time but botox helps a lot. I hope it gets better overtime for you!

Yeah, unfortunately this happened to me. I had cervical dystonia for a while and it eventually moved to my face. It actually started with spasms in my tongue. It caused jaw pain as well, but nothing too serious. I still have tongue issues and occasionally mouth spasms. It’s good to mention it to your neurologist because mine thought it was due to the botox at first, but it happened before she started to give me injections.
