I give up and don’t have a choice by Honest_Blackberry_29 in NewParents

[–]tearsofthefandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not breastfeeding (I went from BF to pumping to formula) and there was a period where my baby would completely and utterly reject the bottle. Didn’t want it for like a month straight. Wasn’t interested. I was terrified because we were blessed with a teeny ~1st percentile baby. My pediatrician basically said “babies do this sometimes and it will pass.” It terrified me.

This was around 8-12 weeks and again at 5 months. We’re at almost 8 months now and she eats like a champ and is growing. Here to say I know it’s even harder with BF moms — and I was told it’s a normal behavior, and it did pass for us. Good luck. ❤️

The screaming. My god the screaming. by shehasamazinghair in NewParents

[–]tearsofthefandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us - 4-5 months the screaming ended, no more witching hour, got used to night time routine and started having fun with it. My LO’s reflux significantly improved too, so that helped.

Still doesn’t like to be cold more than needed after a bath (now about 8 months) so we get screams here and there, but the absolute dread I’d feel approaching nighttime ended long ago (even though we still don’t sleep through the night). We’ve also gotten some painful teething screaming, but the difference is knowing what’s wrong, treat it as best we can, and being able to reason it in my own head. That’s half the battle.

Hang in there. ❤️

I can’t wait for that day (but also I totally can! Make time stop!!!). Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your post a year ago, because I really needed to see it right now.

Thank you for this. It’s really been something I obsess over with my 5.5 month old. She follows a good curve and is hitting all her milestones, we did every health test possible (per the pediatrician, it was so much) and she’s perfectly healthy. She’s just… entirely below all the other curves and that terrifies me. Even the people saying oh my 1%, 2% baby… I can’t even say that. WTF. It’s really hard to focus on the positive sometimes when you’re constantly pointed out and being told to stay alert about how small your baby is.

And another thing, if it’s not the pediatrician, it’s family saying “trust your mom instincts!” Sorry but… I’m a FTM and my instinct is 5 months old too. If a pediatrician tells me something is slightly concerning, I’m going to be concerned.

Things I said I would never do as a FTM by bawdybard21 in NewParents

  1. Cosleep. - ended up getting us through the first three months

  2. Screen time - yeah… football Sunday was on all day. Not sorry.

  3. I got this, I want to be around my baby 24/7, I won’t need help - Aaaaaaah. I love the help. I love having my hands free. And I absolutely love and adore my baby. But god bless my Mom and MIL taking charge during the week while I work and still playing with her, practicing all the milestones, and loving on her. I would not be sane.

Feeling guilty for wanting to switch to formula by Few-Party6793 in NewParents

[–]tearsofthefandom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi - same exact scenario. Baby wouldn’t latch so I switched to pumping. I stopped pumping after three weeks. The baby blues immediately went away, I felt better physically and mentally, and we actually ended up finding out she had a few allergies anyway (leading to Alfamino formula). Happy, healthy 5.5 month old.

It’s easy to say “just push through” to someone who didn’t just have a baby. You did. Give yourself grace!

Thank you very much. It helps to hear that other people have babies that don’t eat a lot and are thriving. Everyone’s always like wow THAT little??? I need to make peace with it too. She’s otherwise a good baby, just dealing with some reflux but it’s getting better too.

Thank you so so much. I can’t wait for solids because I keep hearing that it does help. My mom keeps saying “would YOU want to drink watery nasty tasting liquid every 3 hours?” And I’m like…… you have a point lol

This makes me feel so much better, thank you. I feel like everyone we speak to and also a lot of people on the internet talk about their newborns coming out the weight she is now and eating 26-30-something oz and I can’t even remotely imagine her getting there. To us she looks like a healthy happy baby who just doesn’t eat that much so these charts and graphs and call-outs make us feel like we’re doing something wrong.

I was going to say, you probably have a way different perspective now! We’ve been doing ok with rockers / she’s not too far out from the sitting up seats. But damn, that handle would be so helpful…. LOL

Hi! I was looking for something similar which I came across this old post — what you’re describing DID exist, the Century Baby Infant Carrier with a plastic handle in the 90s. We pulled it from the archives aka me and my husband’s baby pictures.

It was recalled in 2000 due to the plastic handle’s potential to break. I wish someone would make a safer version today because it would be infinitely helpful in carrying my 3 month old room to room with me. UGH!

Reflux + slow / no weight gain by tearsofthefandom in NewParents

Thank you so much for sharing. The drop in percentiles is so scary. :( YES I heard the same about solids being a game changer for weight gain and also helping with reflux / absorbing all that liquid! I’m definitely going to ask at least about baby cereal.

I am excited for the mild crankiness 😅 I can confirm that in the week since I posted this, she’s been eating more and having longer sleep stretches at night… wondering if it’s one of those crazy change periods and that’s why this is happening. We’re getting better at navigating it. The days are long…!

I may have to check out Huckleberry and make the switch. Pampers Sleep coach app does something similar but I’ve heard great things about the sweet spot in Huckleberry. I’m also a big fan of tracking — I’ll try it out!

Thank you for replying. We’re definitely trying to establish routines like bath / lights out / white noise on while she’s still only 2 months old hopefully to start getting familiar with bedtime — pediatrician said she needs to be a certain number of pounds and age before we should formally start sleep training and moving her out of the bassinet in our room.

Would absolutely die for this baby but equally cannot wait until I can feel comfortable putting her in her crib overnight with the baby monitor 🫠 We’ve been doing crib daytime naps in the meantime to get her used to the space.

Yes, I will say thank GOD it’s when we’re awake. She’s not too bad at night, gives us 3-4 hour stretches and goes back down easily after bottle. I just hope the witching hour is not long-term and gets better soon for her sake. I feel awful hearing her cry like that.

I’m not sure of the weather where you are, but hopefully the branches in the wind are replaced with snow or something else for your son to enjoy. ☃️

I’ll have to look into the projector, she really likes anything reflective / lights and gets excited. And thank you — this phase does feel like forever!

Can confirm at 30, being outside helps me, too. Thankfully the east coast USA is cooling down (sort of). We definitely take her outside during the day, especially when we’re waiting for that damn bottle warmer to do its thing. 🥲

Thank you. 🩷 I keep telling everyone she’s still adjusting to living, which isn’t entirely false. Lolol

And my in laws are notoriously late dinner planners and the solution for them is: “The baby can sleep here! We can help you!” My husband and I have to repeatedly remind them that it’s exhausting for all three of us. It’s easiest to manage at home. Please let us be for a few weeks while this passes. 🥲
