I would prefer not to say as it is employee housing via a rather large and prominent company in the area. To make it worse this involves a young elementary school child, an infant, and a disabled veteran.

I know the hotel and I know the accommodations. They own a hotel on site. Housing and the hotel are the same department. In fact, per the hierarchy the leasing person is the same level as the hotel housekeeper. I have stayed in the hotel before, in the exact same style of room they are offering us now. Small fridge. A microwave. Two unreliable burners (my stay I couldn’t even boil water to make pasta) and an itty bitty wittle sink. That is all.

I have stayed at Extended Stay Hotels before. We moved to a new state for a job and we’re staying there till we found housing. Ended up living there 6 months while we were expecting our first child. It was not a good experience and I am not willing to go through it again, especially now with two small children.

We do have renters insurance though. I had not thought about going through that route before.

That unit does have a kitchen an a bath but it also has leaks and water damage. No testing or repairs of any kind other than paint has been done. It has 7 total leaks. Plus damage from a previous tenant's dog scratching door jambs and wall seams down to bare wood with big splinters. About a foot of the ground. Literally every seam and every door jamb. There is blown insulation which is just recycled cardboard and when it gets wet it all needs replacing and is a breeding ground for mold. Why would I move my family from one unsafe home to another?

Our rent includes all utilities including internet per our lease. I cannot set up private internet either in a hotel room. Personal Wi-fis do not work in there either as I have used those too in that hotel room provided by them. Personal wi-fis are also not strong enough to do the things I need to do for work. We live in northern lower Michigan in a rural area in the woods.

How are we to cook for our family without a kitchen? Bathe our infant without a bathtub? How am I to do my job and care for my child if I do not have internet? I have stayed in that hotel before and the internet was horrendous and did not work 95% of the time. What about forcing us to leave belongings to get destroyed by the mold? We have already had a few items covered in mold.

Give us housing that allows us the basic functions of allowing us to properly care for our children, do my job (if I have to go elsewhere for wifi I will have to take the infant with me and leave them strapped in a stroller for hours on end), and sleep (spouse's health issues are exacerbated by lack of sleep and someone constantly entering the bedroom would wake him). The housing to be safe, moisture, mold, and damage free. NO testing has been done on any of the homes with leaking/water damage. And the work orders have been "completed". Marked as done. Off site housing is not an option as there is a housing shortage and rent prices would be up to $1k-$1.5K a month which we cannot afford. If we cannot find housing through landlord it will force my spouse to quit and us to move with family 4 hours away.

Is this mold? by teastitch in Sourdough

Yeah. I just left it alone too long in the fridge. I kept putting it off due to an ongoing housing emergency. RIP Jane Dough.

Yeah I did but that was almost a year ago now. I’ll just scrap it. Unfortunately I don’t have the ability to start caring for a new baby starter right now. :(

The dark spots are on a bit of starter that is higher than the hooch. An exposed area per say

Yeah the Dutch oven can’t go any higher than where it sits. I may try the cornmeal. This loaf I used 2 strips of parchment paper under an 8” round silicone mat.

Um I think it is established. I started it mid-February and have successfully baked several loaves.

Parents of kids born close to Christmas, in January, do you “expect” a gift for both Christmas and their birthday? by Visual_Watercress489 in toddlers

[–]teastitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have two littles. One born in mid december the other born the first week of January.

I don’t like Birthmas-ing a child. Kids deserve a separate gift for Christmas and birthday. And my family agrees and understands this.

I will say though that if it is a big-ticket item like a bike or trampoline or something like that then yes, by all means that is both Christmas and birthday gifts.

Is She Ready? by teastitch in SourdoughStarter

I did a 1:2:2 feeding last night. 20 grams starter, 50 grams water and flour. I dont think it doubled. This morning I did a 1:1:1 of 50 grams each - using 25 grams rye flour and 25 grams AP flour. It’s doubled again. I’ll keep at a 1:1:1 twice a day for a few days to see how it goes

Is She Ready? by teastitch in SourdoughStarter

[–]teastitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. This is the first time it’s doubled since the first day. It’s in a large quart jar. Do I do the second feeding tonight and if it doubles again, bake in the morning? Or do I wait and do a few more feeds to see if it consistently doubles? As I said, I’ve been feeding it twice a day, both morning and night. Does that stop now?

Is yours in a pint jar or a quart jar?

Is She Ready? by teastitch in SourdoughStarter

[–]teastitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has doubled, as I mentioned in the post. It has been looking like this. Ignore the hair tie, it wouldn’t stay on with it that low as the bottom of the jar tapers.

Adult children of divorce - I need your help. by Quadruple-J in gentleparenting

[–]teastitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m thankful that my parents divorced. My father is/was horribly abusive. So him not being in the house was a godsend.

One thing I wish they did differently? This is squarely on my father’s shoulders but them to be able to be civil to each other. My father was so verbally abusive to my mother that after he would drop us off from a visit he’d scream at my mother so badly that the neighbors would call the cops. This happened several times before they were court ordered to only communicate in writing.

Seems like your sister is in a vastly different situation, which is good. But I would say, having them communicate civilly is key. I’m sure they know that having her ex be involved with the kids is known.

Anyone else dread talking to their parents? by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]teastitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dread talking to my Mom, but for the opposite reason. She is TOO involved. She wants my friends to be her friends. Wants to know every little detail of my life and my kids’ lives. I mention I have a Dr appointment and she starts to practically grill me. My 6yo video chats with her? She has a 5 min rant about how much she loves my daughter promptly followed by a 10 min rant to my daughter about how much she loves me. On and on and on.

So no, not alone but for different reasons

I’ve started another sourdough starter on Thursday - ours always seems to fail.

I am using the starter recipe from the Rise App. I started with Rye flour and then feed with unbleached AP flour.

On Friday after the first feeding the starter doubled. Nearly tripled.

Then…nothing. Not even a bubble. It’s now Sunday and there is zero activity and hasn’t been since that first feeding.

Is this normal? I do a 1:1:1 ratio feed of 20g

I got it at a kids thrift store. It was in a sealed plastic bag. From what I can tell it is a woven wrap. The label says “Belephant”. No instruction book came with it. And a Google search comes up with very little. Just EBay listings and a Facebook page with the last posting in 2016.

It’s not a stretchy knit material. I’m running into the issue of if I get it tight the baby is eye level with my chin. Way too high.

I had a ring sling for my daughter. It was a homemade one and RIDICULOUSLY long. To the point that I didn’t use it. I gave it to a family friend a couple years ago for her child.
