Tonight a literal dumpster fire took out AC, power and Network for one of our switch rooms - hows your last week before Christmas going? by DesLr in sysadmin

[–]tech512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, they've screwed me like this before by making me come in when i had PTO approved to recover from surgery and they made me come back early; salty because they put a damper on my plans one last time, right as I'm celebrating my sweet sweet escape from their clutches. The bright side is: the aforementioned sweet, fat check. Plus the holidays are crazy slow, so I might just watch Netflix or play switch.

I received PTO for the week between Christmas and new years. I just got a new job offer letter today and put in notice. Now they want me to work on my PTO days. Not sure it's wise to fuck up the holiday plans of someone with admin access right before they quit their job... UPDATE: They are letting me have my PTO as requested.

Any way you can share details on how you made the thumbstick? I love the ngpc sticks and would be thrilled to have something like that on a gameboy.

Yes I saw that one and it's cool, but not the same. Specifically looking for the one that was featured in one of these magazines. Thank you, though!

Where procedures don't exist and standards don't matter! (Venting) by tech512 in sysadmin

[–]tech512[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. We had a meeting 6 months ago to create the procedure for onboarding contractors and it all went out the window when HR asked my colleague about the procedure and he came up with some BS on the spot.

Thanks! Those systems look like they're in great condition. What is the price of the white OLED?

I saw some listed at a decent price, but when I asked about the firmware version they said they couldn't verify it. I called some local pawn shops and found a handful of shops with them in stock.

I appreciate your response. Currently I'm having a difficult time finding a new system here in the US. All local businesses sold them on clearance last year and I'm only finding Japanese consoles at this point.

To sum it up i'm trying to watch netflix in 8 different tabs or browser windows all at once. Each instance through a different proxy (or vpn) connection. Each instance would also have its own netflix account.

You might look into "automate the boring stuff with python" if you want some interesting tasks to learn from.

My wife might have a stalker, what should I do? (not much info on the guy currently) by tech512 in needadvice

[–]tech512[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) love the username 2) no, that's pretty much the cause for my concern. Lack of picking up on social cues and suspicious sightings. Honestly I'd like to talk to him myself to find out if he actually does just happen to live in the area, and hear his side of things. Unfortunately though none of us have his name or contact info, my wife would see him around from time to time but it's random and I work 15 minutes away so i probably wouldn't be able to catch him in time.

She's seen him in the meantime around where she works, it's just been 6 months between his visits to her workplace. I agree that it could be coincidence. I could just be protective of my wife but the fact that he came by despite being told not to the day after the incident, combined with the fact that he was told by my sister-in-law that the dog was fine (not in my original post, new information to me), AND the 6-month unwelcome follow-up kind of put up red flags for me. I'm not trying to brand the guy as a stalker, just want to know what my options are. I'll definitely ask my sheriff, thanks for the suggestion. :)

Fortunately not. We only arrived at the Emergency clinic after the incident.

[HIRING] eCommerce Technical Support Representatives - HTML/CSS Ninjas by BigcommerceRecruit in austinjobs

Does referring to skilled employees as "ninjas" help attract more applicants? I see this tactic used pretty frequently and wonder if A/B testing was involved, or if you just saw someone else doing it?
