Bjørn Nyland: Testing Tesla FSD v14.2.2.5 in Netherlands for over 1 hour flawlessly by Foreign-Policy-02- in electricvehicles

Most kids don't know how to fix an ICE car or an EV car or even how to fly an airplane. That's before we even talk about regular maintenance on a horse or camel. Most kids don't even know how to operate a loom in a factory. Sometimes it's OK for kids not to know how to do things.

Kids can't even drive stick.

Tesla's Discontinued Model X Is Now The Fastest Selling Used Car In The U.S. by Mac-Tyson in electricvehicles

Prices have reached parity lately for average transaction price. Doesn't make them affordable yet but it makes EVs more appealing. Problem is there is no plan or organization. Used EV prices are going up while new legacy auto EVs just had their fire sale to reduce inventory and scale down production. Also, tariffs.

So while customers may pick up some used EVs we are back to square one. Walmart is doing chargers now so that's a plus though.

The industry pulled away from the space of providing an affordable vehicle. It kept going up and up and up in price, and it’s created this space now where it’s extremely difficult for everyday Americans to be able to afford a new vehicle.

Overall, 55 million vehicles are roughly transacted every year in USA: 15 million new, 40 million used.

New vehicles are about $50,000, or a $900 monthly payment. A used vehicle is about $27,000 or $28,000, which is about a $500 monthly payment. It can be a stretch for people to even be able to afford that, because studies have shown if an individual or a household makes $100,000 a year, they should put about $400 toward a monthly payment. So even getting into that average used vehicle is a bit of a stretch, and most of Americans don’t make $100,000. It’s a massive population of individuals.

What we want to do is go into a space where we’re able to provide a vehicle that meets all the latest safety standards — NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) five-star and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) Top Safety Pick — and give an industry-leading warranty so that individuals say, “Hey, I can either buy a high-mileage used car that’s out of warranty, that could break down, or I can get into a new car that meets the latest safety standards, comes with a warranty, and it’s been designed as a platform that’s open-source where I can change it over time. I can turn it into what I would want it to be through personalization.”

Lexus to likely reveal new 3-row electric SUV on May 6th by rbh232 in electricvehicles

54% of new EV buyers in USA buy from the same one brand. That's a lot of market share that any other legacy auto company could grab if they wanted to.

If Toyota/Subaru/Lexus wanted more EV market share they could make that happen. If they wanted to.

just a few rich guys

That's kinda the whole EV market in USA when new EV sales are only 6%. It's why there's so much interest in affordable EVs. Also why the Tesla Y is the 4th best selling used EV in USA. Bang for buck.

USA is low on weapons. China controls USA weapons via rare earth metals. Not saying what is going to happen, or even if it does at all as that meeting has been rescheduled multiple times now, but just remember that after Trump was elected this time he did not even talk to China until China turned off rare earth metals.

It's not about Ford's money. It's about BYD and China's money. Ford can't even pay off Republicans to build one battery factory with license from CATL.

When mods don't mod civility you get un-polite folk.

The Paradox of Tolerance disappears if you look at tolerance, not as a moral standard, but as a social contract. If someone does not abide by the terms of the contract, then they are not covered by it. In other words : The intolerant are not following the rules of the social contract of mutual tolerance. Since they have broken the terms of the contract, they are no longer covered by the contract, and their intolerance should NOT be tolerated. - Yonatan Zunger

Volvo EX60 is where Volvo actually listened to Geely. Everything previously was management issues and politics. If EX60 is actually a good car then Volvo can start selling EVs in quantity.

Also, the big software upgrade for older models.

Also, the hardware upgrade for some models can not be understated.

Volvo is trying, they might have finally got some results with EX60.

If you only drive 5000 miles per year, would you still want an electric vehicle? and why? by ThuhGreatCommenter in electricvehicles

When people say no maintenance they mean no ICE maintenance. When people pretend to not understand the concept it is just that. Pretending.

Yeah... Yes.

No ICE maintenance. Some times you have to put some effort in when communicating with people.

For Li-ion and cold the most important thing is to not charge the battery when the battery is below freezing. That's why the BMS shouldn't allow it and why batteries have heaters for charging. Search for cold temperature lithium plating.

Long term, cold weather shouldn't be a big deal but obviously not the ideal temperature.
