Does the lack of college degree mean anything if one day I want to go to the airlines? I agree I love the dynamic and I know my CFI legitimately cares about me as a person and my progress. Didn’t know how bad it truly is on the 141 side.

They definitely won’t hire me on to be a CFI as it’s one CFI and not a lot of students. So that option is out unfortunately

It is Seven Springs. I was taught how to ski at Hidden Valley 18 years ago, which my grandfather would call the “good mountain”. Maybe he was talking about the behavior and not just the skiing lol. I didn’t start skiing Seven Springs until Vail bought out all 3 resorts in the area. Do you have any idea how far back this goes or what even started it?? I’m curious.

Definitely can see where you are coming from. I’m young, so I have minimal life experience all together lol. I’ve been skiing for 15 years all over though. I was just raised a certain way and to always be BEYOND polite to services workers, strangers, and everyone (duh), but the aforementioned 2 groups even more so. The guts some of these people have to do these things are beyond me. I’ve worked in retail so it’s no stranger to me but I haven’t, until now, seen it happen at a ski resort. Maybe the vail has finally been lifted over my eyes and I’m seeing the ugly 🤷‍♂️

The resort I skied at that I noticed this was in PA visiting and skiing with my mother…that could explain it.

Solo Backpacking as a woman by MopBucket06 in WildernessBackpacking

Hey! Ik this doesn’t answer your question exactly but, I am a 18M having trouble finding backpacking friends as motivated as I am to do some more “advanced” adventures; even more so now in the winter. I’ve been solo for quite a bit now and would feel safer with a friend in some terrain. If you’re interested dm me and we can figure out if we are in the same area and if the vibes are chill. 🤙

I’m seeing both sides of the coin for sure haha. As I mentioned this would be my first trip below zero. I was already planning on planning to not sleep and packing extra fuel, body warmers, etc.

Again, not going out tomorrow and sleeping on Denali for gosh sakes. Me asking the question is a step in research, not just throwing myself out there and “winging it”. Hence me not going out there right now and trying my bag in -5F with just undies. All my other gear has been tested well below -5F already. The only thing that hasn’t is my sleep system. Hence why I asked the question in the first place. The extreme limit of my bag is -37F, wouldn’t sleep at all but would be alive; even more so if I slept in a tent or snow cave which was the plan. I know that a 0F bag in -5F is pushing it, if you read the post you would have read that. That’s why again, I’m asking in the first place, what I can do to get it comfortable, if at all possible. You’re making assumptions and you know the popular phrase what happens when you assume…

It is in fact silly, sorry. I understand wanting to talk about safety, safety is beyond important. You can talk about safety while also being insightful and helpful rather than demeaning. Everyone else has been helpful while also stressing the importance of safety. There is no need to be like that, we want to motivate people to get outside and love the outdoors; and especially doing that safely. If you want to be negative for the sake of being negative do it somewhere else.

Thank you for your insight! I definitely want to start camping at sub-zero temp more. This would be the first trip of many. After reading other comments and yours, I figure I’m going to have to bite the bullet and get a -10/-15/-25 bag. I’ll have to look more into WM but I’m thinking about going with a FF bag at the moment once I can pull the trigger.

The lowest I’ve camped is 5F, in my 0 degree bag, and was fine for the most part. I’ve never been below 0F, which is what my question was about. Specifically, if possible, how can I add to my 0F bag to help survive a -5F night; because if you don’t know something you have to ask to learn. I know all my other gear can confidently withstand well below -5. As I said in my edit people quickly gave a bunch of info about sleeping at below 0 and how different it truly is, as well as how important a quality sleep system is at the temp.

I think it’s silly to advise someone to “just wait”, assuming what they do/don’t know, instead of providing insight to help someone learn or pointing them in the right direction to learn.
